PEACE IS THE WAY OF LIFE
Peace, as we
all know, is very important in our lives and it is essential to our overall
well-being. Peace is the natural state
of society; violence is an unnatural state. Peace is as much in accordance with
nature's plan as violence is against it. When peaceful conditions prevail in a
society all activities take place in their proper form.Various religious and
secular organisations have the stated aim of achieving world peace through
addressing human rights, technology, education, engineering, medicine or
diplomacy used as an end to all forms of fighting.
Since 1945, the United Nations and the 5
permanent members of its Security Council have operated under the aim to
resolve conflicts without war or declarations of war. Nonetheless, nations have
entered numerous military conflicts since then. “Peace is not the absence of
conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means,” wrote Ronald
Reagan. Rotary International celebrates its 113th birthday with a focus on
world peace through the elimination of poverty, hunger and disease. Increasing
the standard of living certainly helps reduce conflicts in the world. Affluent
countries have never had a war within their borders in the last few decades. So
what can we do to promote peace? “Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be
achieved by understanding,” wrote Albert Einstein. Fighting for peace does not
prevent war. World peace starts with each of us. It starts in our home, on our
street and in our social life. As Jonathan Lockwood Hule said, ‘Forgive others
not because they deserve forgiveness, but because you deserve peace. Any kind
of violence, even in its lowest form can be a huge hindrance to peace, and that
is why we must stamp it out in order to preserve peace and the lives of
millions of innocent people.
World peace
is an ideal of freedom, peace, and happiness among and within all nations.
World peace is an idea of planetary non-violence by which nations willingly
cooperate, either voluntarily or by virtue of a system of governance that
prevents warfare.Peace is the desire of every beating heart. Peace is the hope
of every nation, the promise of every politician, the pulse of every religious
tradition, the goal of every prayer. Peace is the bold, courageous and ultimate
response to the notion that violence provides any viable solution for the
conflicts of our world. Where war destroys and tears apart, peace builds,
strengthens and restores. At the same time peace is personal, for each of us
longs for security and tranquillity in the face of the troubles, anxiety and chaos
that often touches our lives. The only way we can achieve world peace worldwide
is when we can accelerate the progress of our evolution. URI observed this year
as a special year for “Accelerating Peace". The fast growing International
Interfaith Organisation will conduct a Peace Conference at Stanford University
on 26 and 27th June. The conference will discuss more issues about
world Peace.
