YASH PAL PASSES AWAY

പ്രമുഖ ശാസ്ത്ര പണ്ഡിതന്‍ പ്രഫ. യശ്പാല്‍ അന്തരിച്ചു

Veteran scientist, administrator and popular science communicator, Professor Yash Pal died on24th July,2017, Monday in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. He was 90. His last rites will take place at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.Mr. Pal made significant contributions to the field of science and to the study of cosmic rays, high-energy physics, astrophysics and development, among others. He was also instrumental in establishing institutions that were key to India's space programme.

A scientist of international repute, Mr. Pal was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1976 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2013.Mr. Pal hosted ‘Turning Point’, a popular science show on Doordarshan. He was also the recipient of several awards including the Indira Gandhi Prize for Popularization of Science in 2000 and The Meghnad Saha Medal in 2006. Mr. Pal served as the Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi from 2007 to 2012. In 2009, he chaired a committee to suggest reforms to higher education in India.

പ്രമുഖ ശാസ്ത്ര പണ്ഡിതനും വൈജ്ഞാനികനും രചയിതാവുമായ പ്രഫ. യശ്പാല്‍ (90) നോയിഡയിലെ വസതിയില്‍ നിര്യാതനായി. പത്മവിഭൂഷണ്‍, പത്മഭൂഷണ്‍, മാക്രോണി പുരസ്‌കാരങ്ങള്‍ നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ശാസ്ത്രത്തെ സാധാരണക്കാരിലേക്ക് അടുപ്പിക്കുന്നതില്‍ പ്രധാനപങ്കു വഹിച്ചയാളാണ് പ്രഫ. യശ്പാല്‍.
