demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, sources said. Jewellers are accepting
these notes but a higher price is paid for the same gold."We are accepting
old notes, but that same 10 gram gold would come for at least Rs 15,000 more.
Many people who have black money have seen this as a great opportunity to get
rid of their black money," said a jewellery shop owner from Charminar.Even,
gold jewellers claim that they are feeling the heat with surprise raids by the
Income Tax department for hoarding thousands of leaves of the banned currency.
"We have been asked to be vigil. The situation is quite tense,"
another Old City goldsmith said.
According to members
of the Twin Cities Jewellers' Association, the demonetisation has shown it's
impact on gold sales. "Many traders and jewellers have refused to accept
the old notes and this attitude has shown an impact on the sales. There are
reports of IT raids on a few jewellers," said Satish Agarwal Kundan,
managing director, Kundan Jewellers and Exports, who is also a member of the
association.Sources said there are several people who rushed to convert their
now defunct notes into assets, forcing the gold prices to soar over the
weekend. As against the market price of Rs 31,000 per 10 gm, some people have
paid as much as Rs 51,000 per 10 gm to buy the precious metal.They also said
that there were a few bullion dealers who were using the banned currency to
transact their daily business, which is against the law, now.

വിറ്റതെന്ന് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ബുള്ളിയന്‍ ആന്റ് ജ്വല്ലേഴ്‌സ് അസോസിയേഷന്‍ ദേശീയ സെക്രട്ടറി സുരേന്ദ്ര മേത്ത പറഞ്ഞു.അഞ്ഞൂറിന്റെയും ആയിരത്തിന്റെയും നോട്ടുകള്‍ കൈമാറിയാണ് ഇത്രയും തുകയുടെ സ്വര്‍ണം വാങ്ങിയത്. അസോസിയേഷനു കീഴിലെ 2500 ജ്വല്ലറികളില്‍
നടത്തിയ വില്‍പനയുടെ കണക്കാണിത്.പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയുടെ പ്രഖ്യാപനം നടന്ന നവംബര്‍ എട്ടിന് രാത്രി എട്ടു മണിക്കും ഒമ്പതിന് പുലര്‍ച്ചെ മൂന്നുമണിക്കുമിടയിലാണ് ഇതില്‍ ഏറിയ പങ്കും വിറ്റഴിഞ്ഞത്.
