The rain storms that battered France this week were part of a wider weather front across
Europe that left 18 people dead in floods that trapped people in their homes,
felled trees and power cables, and cut off roads and rail lines.As the Seine's
waters gradually fell after reaching their highest level in three decades and
forcing thousands out of their homes, the threat shifted north of the capital,
where the river overflowed around the city of Rouen in the early hours of
Sunday.Insurers said the rains caused at least 600
million euros worth of damage and could eventually total more than a billion
euros.President François Hollande said the government would formally
declare a "natural catastrophe" on Wednesday to facilitate payout by
the insurance industry.
ഫ്രാന്‍സില്‍ വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കത്തില്‍ നിരവധി പ്രദേശങ്ങള്‍ വെള്ളത്തിന്നടിയിലായി. 100 വര്‍ഷത്തിനിടയിലുണ്ടായ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കമാണ് ഫ്രാന്‍സിലുണ്ടായിരിക്കുന്നത്. പാരിസീലെ പ്രശസ്ത മ്യൂസിയം ലൂവര്‍ അടച്ചു. രാജ്യത്ത് ഒരാഴ്ച്ചയായി തുടരുന്ന ശക്തമായ മഴയില്‍ ഇതുവരെ 10 പേര്‍ മരിച്ചു. വെള്ളത്തില്‍ കുടുങ്ങിയവരെ സഹായിക്കാന്‍ സൈന്യം രംഗത്തുണ്ട്.
പാലീസില്‍ വെള്ളം കയറിയതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് ഒരു മെട്രോലൈന്‍ അടച്ചു. ഒരാഴ്ച്ച നീണ്ട കൊടുങ്കാറ്റിന്
പിന്നാലെയെത്തിയ മഴ തെരുവുകളെ വെള്ളത്തില്‍ മുക്കി. സ്‌കൂളുകള്‍ അടച്ചു. ആളുകള്‍ കെട്ടിടങ്ങളുടെ ടെറസ്സില്‍ കുടുങ്ങിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്. നിരവധി പേരെ കാണാതായിട്ടുണ്ട്.
