Two streams originating from the Western Ghats meet here to form the Chalippuzha River. The river diverges into three waterfalls creating a snowy spray, which gives the name, 'Thusharagiri'. The word Thusharagiri means the snow-capped mountain. Of the three, the highest waterfall is the Thenpara that falls from an altitude of 75 metres (246 ft).Thusharagiri offers endless scope for trekking, rock climbing and wild life sanctuary visits. It is around 50 kilometres (31 mi) from Kozhikode. The nearest town Kodancherry is around 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) from Thusharagiri. The other main towns situated here are Thiruvambadywhich is 18 km away and Thamarassery which is 17 km away. One has to purchase all necessary things for trekking from here.

Thusharagiri, located in Kozhikode district, offers a fine trekking trail to Wayanad which is rich with breathtaking views of picturesque waterfalls, various shades of greenery, streams bursting forth from ravines, and rustic log bridges.About 48 km from Kozhikode, at the foothills of the Ghats, lies Adivaram, the charming village. You can see a winding road that branches off from NH 212 (Kozhikode – Ooty Highway) and a ten kilometre drive through the road will lead you to the base of the trekking trail in Thusgharagiri.  On the way, you will be refreshed by the spectacular rustic beauty of the villages. There is a tourist facilitation centre here which helps you get all the details on trekking and camping.

There is a peak called Mele Thenpara (which means Upper Honey Rock) and by the time you reach there you will watch and relish the beauty of nature which is enriched with no less than four waterfalls. The falls include Erattumukku, the first one, which is about 100 m above the base. Water falls on the boulders and natural pools have been created below. The trekkers walk across the narrow bridges over the waters.  When the trekker reaches about 400 m up the hill, there is an idyllic spot called Mazhavil Chattam (Rainbow Falls) and it also houses a waterfall. The next fascinating spot is Thumbithullum para, which is about 900 m up. If you travel a few kilometres further, you can reach Thonnikayal where a large pool under the falls enhance the charm of the area.

The final climb again takes five km and you will reach the Upper Honey Rock and can enjoy yet another magnificent fall. Avinjithode is a nearby location where there is another waterfall and usually the trekkers start descending from this region. On your way back in this route, you can observe Pooncholapara.Another trail from the base of Thusharagiri trail leads to the woodlands and then to Vythiri, which is also used by hundreds of trekkers every year.

കേരളത്തിലെ കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലയിലെ കോടഞ്ചേരി എന്ന സ്ഥലത്തുള്ള ഒരു വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടമാണ് തുഷാരഗിരി വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടം. മഞ്ഞണിഞ്ഞ മലകൾ എന്ന് അർത്ഥം വരുന്ന തുഷാരഗിരി പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിന്റെ താഴ്വരയിലാണ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. പ്രകൃതിസുന്ദരമാണ് ഈ വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടം.സെപ്റ്റംബർ മുതൽ നവംബർ വരെയുള്ള മാസങ്ങളാണ് തുഷാരഗിരി സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ ഏറ്റവും അനുയോജ്യം. വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടത്തിന് ഏറ്റവും ശക്തിയുള്ളത് ഈ കാലയളവിലാണ്. വെള്ളം പലതട്ടുകളായി ഈ വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടത്തിൽ താഴേയ്ക്ക് വീഴുന്നു.പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ഉൽഭവിക്കുന്ന രണ്ട് അരുവികൾ ഇവിടെ കൂടിച്ചേർന്ന് ചാലിപ്പുഴ എന്ന നദി രൂപം കൊള്ളുന്നു. നദി മൂന്നായി പിരിഞ്ഞ് മൂന്ന് വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടങ്ങളായി ഒരു മഞ്ഞുപോലത്തെ ജലധാരയാവുന്നു. ഇതിൽ നിന്നാണ് തുഷാരഗിരി എന്ന പേരുവന്നത്.

ഈ മൂന്നുവെള്ളച്ചാട്ടങ്ങളിൽ ഏറ്റവും ഉയരം കൂടിയത് തേൻപാറ വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടം ആണ്. 75 മീറ്റർ ആണ് ഇതിന്റെ പൊക്കം. റബ്ബർ, ജാതിക്ക, കുരുമുളക്, ഇഞ്ചി, മറ്റു പല സുഗന്ധവ്യഞ്ജനങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയുടെ കൃഷിസ്ഥലമായ ഇവിടം സാഹസിക വിനോദസഞ്ചാരികൾക്ക് പ്രിയങ്കരമാണ്. സാഹസിക മലകയറ്റക്കാർ അതിരാവിലെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടത്തിൽ നിന്നും കുന്നുകയറി തുടങ്ങി നിത്യഹരിതവനങ്ങളിലൂടെ വൈകിട്ട് വയനാട് ജില്ലയിലെ വൈത്തിരിയിൽഎത്തുന്നു. തുഷാരഗിരി പല പാറക്കെട്ടുകൾക്കും വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടങ്ങൾക്കും ഇടയിലൂടെ മലകയറുവാനും പാറ കയറുവാനും അനുയോജ്യമാണ്. ഇവിടെ അടുത്തായി രണ്ട് അണക്കെട്ടുകളും ഉണ്ട്. തുഷാരഗിരി വനമേഖലയിൽ അന്യം നിന്നുപോകുന്ന 45 ഓളം ചിത്രശലഭങ്ങളെ കണ്ടെത്തിയതായി റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. 60 വർഷം മുമ്പ് അന്യം നിന്ന് പോയെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ട്രാവൻകൂർ ഈവനിംഗ് ബ്രൗൺ എന്ന ചിത്രശലഭം ഈ ചിത്രശലഭ വർഗ്ഗത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഇനമാണ്പ്രകൃതിയുടെ അത്ഭുതങ്ങള്‍ ആവോളമുള്ള കേരളത്തില്‍ ജലവും ഭൂമിയും തമിലുള്ള കൂട്ടായമ തീര്ക്കു]ന്ന അപൂര്വ്വ  ദൃശ്യങ്ങള്‍ കൊണ്ട് സമ്പന്നമാണ്  തുഷാരഗിരി. അതിമനോഹരമായ വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടം എന്നത് പോലെ തന്നെ പര്വ്വൂത- കാനന സൌന്ദര്യത്തില്‍ മയങ്ങി ട്രെക്കിങ്ങ് നടത്താന്‍ അവസരമൊരുക്കുന്നു എന്നതും സഞ്ചാരികളെ തുഷാരഗിരിയിലേക്ക് ആകര്ഷിരക്കുന്നു.

കോഴിക്കോട് നിന്ന് അമ്പത് കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ അകലെ വൈത്തിരിക്ക് സമീപമാണ് തുഷാരഗിരി. മഞ്ഞു മൂടിയ മല പോലെ പതഞ്ഞൊഴുകുന്ന വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടത്തില്‍ നിന്നാണ് തുഷാരഗിരിക്ക് ആ പേര് ലഭിച്ചത്. പശ്ചിമഘട്ടങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്ന് ആരംഭിക്കുന്ന രണ്ട് നീരൊഴുക്കുകളാണ് ചാലിപ്പുഴയുമായി മാറുന്നത്. ചാലിപ്പുഴ പിന്നീട് മൂന്ന് അതിമനോഹര വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടങ്ങളായി മാറുന്നു. തുഷാരഗിരി എന്ന പൊതുവായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടങ്ങളില്‍ ഏറ്റവും ഉയരമേറിയത്ത് 75 മീറ്റര്‍ ഉയരമുള്ള തേന്പ്പാ റയാണ്.
