MATHEW MATTAM PASSES AWAY
നോവലിസ്‌റ്റ് മാത്യു മറ്റം അന്തരിച്ചു
Noted
novelist Mathew Mattam, who touched the hearts of the mediocre people with his
popular village stories of them, passed away here on Sunday. He was admitted to
Government Medical College, Kottayam, following a massive heart attack around
two weeks ago and succumbed to it on 29th May,2016, Sunday at around
3 am. He was 65.
Mathew Mattam, who has written more than 270 novels, had
carved out a niche in Malayalam literature with his thriller stories through
various weeklies published from Kottayam, which were known as ‘ma’
publications. A predominant number of his novels were published before the
advent of television serial, which created wave among the public and readers
waited eagerly for the following episodes of his novels.
His
novels including ‘Karimb’, ‘May Dinam’, ‘Anju Sundarikal’, ‘Alippazham’,
‘Daivam Urangiyittilla’, ‘Profasarude Makal’ and ‘Roti’ were a huge hit during
1980s and early 1990s. Among these, ‘Karimbu’ and ‘May Dinam’ were made into
films and ‘Alippazham’ was made into a serial.
He has written over 270 novels.
Laksham Veedu, Karimbu, May dinam, Anchu sundarikal, Aalippazham, Rotti, Daivam
urangiyittilla and Professarude makal are some of his popular works. May dinam
and Karimbu were made into movies. Alippazham was made into a TV serial. Mattam
was one of the successful writers in the Malayalam fiction or parallel
literature industry which flourished here in the 80s and the 90s. It is
popularly called Paingili (songbird) fiction after the book, Padatha Paingili,
written by a pioneer of Malayalam pulp fiction, Muttathu Varkey.
മലയാളികളുടെ ജനപ്രിയ നോവലിസ്‌റ്റ് മാത്യു മറ്റം (65) അന്തരിച്ചു. ഹൃദയാഘാതത്തെത്തുടര്‍ന്ന്‌ ഇന്നലെ പുലര്‍ച്ചെയായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യം. "മംഗളം" വാരികയിലൂടെ നോവല്‍ രംഗത്തേക്കു കടന്നുവന്ന മാത്യു മറ്റം 270ലേറെ നോവലുകള്‍ രചിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. ലക്ഷംവീട്‌, കരിമ്പ്‌, മേയ്‌ദിനം, അഞ്ചു സുന്ദരികള്‍, ആലിപ്പഴം, റൊട്ടി, ദൈവം ഉറങ്ങിയിട്ടില്ല, പ്രഫസറുടെ മകള്‍ തുടങ്ങിയവയാണു പ്രധാന കൃതികള്‍.
എരുമേലി പമ്പാവാലി സ്വദേശിയായ മാത്യു മറ്റം ഹൈസ്‌കൂള്‍ പഠന കാലയളവില്‍ കഥകളെഴുതി പുസ്‌തകമാക്കിയിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട്‌ ജനപ്രിയ നോവല്‍ സാഹിത്യത്തിലേക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞു. ഒരേ സമയം 13 വാരികകളില്‍ വരെ നോവലുകളെഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. കുടിയേറ്റ കര്‍ഷകരുടെയും പാര്‍ശ്വവത്‌കരിക്കപ്പെട്ടവരുടെയും കഥകള്‍ ലളിതമായ ഭാഷയില്‍ എഴുതിയ മാത്യു മറ്റത്തിന്റെ രചനാരീതി ഉദ്വേഗഭരിതവും ഹരം കൊള്ളിക്കുന്നതുമായിരുന്നു. 2010ല്‍ "മഹാപാപി" എന്ന പേരില്‍ പുറക്കിയ ആത്മീയ ഗ്രന്ഥമാണ്‌ അവസാന പുസ്‌തകം. സംക്രാന്തി മാമ്മൂട്ടിലെ വസതിയിലായിരുന്നു താമസം. ഭാര്യ: വത്സമ്മ. മക്കള്‍ : കിഷോര്‍ (മനോരമ പബ്ലിക്കേഷന്‍സ്‌), എമിലി (ഇസ്രയേല്‍). മരുമക്കള്‍: റോയി കാട്ടര്‍കുന്നേല്‍, ജിജി (കിംസ്‌ ആശുപത്രി). സംസ്‌കാരം ഇന്നു മൂന്നിനു പാറമ്പുഴ ബത്‌ലഹേം പള്ളിയില്‍.മാത്യു മറ്റത്തിന്റെ നിര്യാണത്തില്‍ മംഗളം ചീഫ്‌ എഡിറ്റര്‍ സാബു വര്‍ഗീസ്‌ അനുശോചനം രേഖപ്പെടുത്തി. മംഗളം വാരിക ജനകീയമാക്കുന്നതില്‍ നിര്‍ണായക പങ്കുവഹിച്ച വ്യക്‌തിയായിരുന്നു മാത്യു മറ്റമെന്ന്‌ അദ്ദേഹം അനുസ്‌മരിച്ചു.
