Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad, who survived six days buried under a 25-feet
avalanche in Siachen, died at an army hospital on Thursday.Koppad was among 10 soldiers who were swept away by an ice wall
on February 3 while guarding the Sonam post located some 20,500 feet high in
the Himalayas.Rescuers pulled out the 33-year-old soldier alive on Monday. His
colleagues were found dead.Koppad was brought to the Army Research and Referral
Hospital in New Delhi the same day. He died at 11.45 am, the army said.At the
time of rescue, Koppad was conscious but drowsy, disoriented and severely
dehydrated. Later, he developed pneumonia and his liver and kidney became
dysfunctional. On Wednesday, he went into coma, sending a nation into a
collective prayer for his recovery.
For
Koppad’s family, it was a cruel quirk of fate. His family and hundreds of
people from his village had celebrated the news of his rescue. Some of them had
been flown to New Delhi from their native place Dharwad, Karnataka, to be with
Koppad, who belonged to the Madras Regiment.But as the news of Koppad’s death
broke, TV images showed the family plunging into grief. His father was seen
breaking down with neighbours trying to comfort him.Millions across the country
had prayed that he recovers. But, that was not to be.Prime Minister Narendra
Modi led the nation in paying homage to the dead army soldier, whom many TV
stations called the “Siachen Hero” while others ran the news about him under
the hashtag #SonsofSiachen.“He leaves us sad and devastated. RIP Lance Naik Hanumanthappa.

സിയാച്ചിനിലെ മഞ്ഞിടിച്ചിലില്‍ കുടുങ്ങി ആറാം ദിവസം അത്ഭുതകരമായി ജീവനോടെ കണ്ടെത്തിയ ലാന്‍സ് നായിക് ഹനുമന്തപ്പ അന്തരിച്ചു. രാവിലെ 11.45 ന് ഡല്‍ഹിയിലെ സൈനിക ആശുപത്രിയിലായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യം. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ കരളും വൃക്കയുമടക്കം ആന്തരികാവയവങ്ങള്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനരഹിതമായിരുന്നു.ന്യുമോണിയബാധ രൂക്ഷമാവുകയും തലച്ചോറിലേക്ക് ഒാക്സിജന്‍ എത്താതാവുകയും ചെയ്തതോടെ മരണം സംഭവിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. സൈനിക ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ നിന്നും ഡല്‍ഹി ബ്രാര്‍ സ്ക്വയറിലെ സൈനിക കേന്ദ്രത്തിലെത്തിച്ച മൃതദേഹത്തില്‍ പ്രതിരോധമന്ത്രി മനോഹര്‍ പരീക്കറും കരസേനമേധാവി ദല്‍ബീര്‍ സിങ് സുഹാഗും അടക്കമുള്ള പ്രമുഖര്‍ അന്തിമോപചാരം അര്‍പ്പിച്ചു. ഹനുമന്തപ്പയുടെ മൃതദേഹം വ്യോമസേനയുടെ വിമാനത്തില്‍ ജന്മനാടായ കര്‍ണാടകയിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോകും.... വിസ്മയംപോലെ പ്രകൃതി മടക്കിത്തന്ന ആ ജീവനുവേണ്ടിയുള്ള രാജ്യത്തിന്‍റെ മുഴുവന്‍ പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥനകളും കണ്ണീരോടെ യാത്രമൊഴിക്ക് വഴിമാറി. ആറുദിവസം ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയരം കൂടി യുദ്ധഭൂമിയായ സിയാച്ചിനിലെ മഞ്ഞുപാളിക്കടിയിലും മൂന്നുദിവസം ഡല്‍ഹി സൈനിക ആശുപത്രിയിലെ വെന്‍റിലേറ്ററിലും ജീവനുവേണ്ടി പോരാടിയ ലാന്‍സ് നായക് ഹനുമന്തപ്പ മരണത്തിന് കീഴടങ്ങി. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ കരളും വൃക്കയുമടക്കം ആന്തരികാവയവങ്ങള്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനരഹിതമായിരുന്നു. 2002 ഒക്ടോബര്‍ 25 ന് സൈന്യത്തില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന ഹനുമന്തപ്പ കശ്മീരിലെയും ബോഡാ തീവ്രവാദഭീഷണിയുള്ള അസമിലേയും സംഘര്‍ഷ മേഖലകളിലാണ് ഏറിയപങ്കും സേവനം അനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ഈ മാസം മൂന്നിനാണ് ഹനുമന്തപ്പയും കൊല്ലം മണ്‍റോത്തുരുത്ത് സ്വദേശിയായ ലാന്‍സ് നായിക് സുധീഷ് ബിയും ഉള്‍പ്പെടുന്ന19 ാം ബറ്റാലിയന്‍ മദ്രാസ് റെജിമെന്‍റിലെ പത്ത് സൈനികര്‍ മഞ്ഞിലിടിച്ചിലില്‍പ്പെട്ടത്
