Image result for kumaranasanWork is progressing on a memorial to poet Kumaranasan at Kumarakodi, near Pallana. Asan, one of the highly acclaimed poets of Kerala, lost his life in a boat tragedy at Kumarakodi, during a trip from Kollam to Alappuzha, in 1924.The memorial is being built in the form of a boat.The project is being undertaken by the District Tourism Promotion Council. The idea is to develop Kumarakodi as a transit station on the Kollam-Alappuzha waterways.Facilities will be available for berthing of two houseboats there at a time.The memorial building will have a seminar hall, audiovisual rooms, reference library and guest rooms, according to officials.Work on the Pallana-Kumarakodi bridge connecting Haripad to the areas on the western side of the Pallana river is in the final stages.
The bridge is expected to be opened by the end of this month. Construction of the bridge, with an outlay of Rs.32.8 crore, began in 2013. The bridge, spanning 374 metres in length, will have approach roads on either side, extending up to 106 metres. Funds to the tune of Rs.6.25 crore were allocated for laying the approach road.Work on the road stretch between Karuvatta and Kumarakodi is also in the final stages.The road is also proposed to be opened for traffic on the day of inauguration of the new bridge.Kumaranasan died in a boat tragedy at Kumarakodi, near Pallana, in 1924
