Former Supreme Court judge KS Paripoornan passed away at a private hospital on  3rd February,2016,Wednesday night. He was under treatment and death occurred due to multiple organ failure, hospital sources said.Justice Paripoornan was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday with an infection to the lungs and with complaints on functioning of kidneys and heart. His condition worsened and he was put on ventilator support by Wednesday.

He practiced civil, taxation, and general matters at the high court and had been a government counsel at the high court from 1966 to 1980. He was appointed as a judge of the Kerala High Court in December 1982 and later became the chief justice of Patna high court in January 1994. He was elevated as a Supreme Court judge in June 1994 and retired in June 1997. He was residing at Ammankovil Road in Kochi.Former Supreme Court judge KT Thomas, who had served as a judge of the Kerala high court and the Supreme Court along with justice Paripoornan, had talked about him in his memoir 'Honeybees of Solomon' and had termed the relationship as "a rare privilege". "He was regarded as a wizard in income tax law and his knowledge in Hindu philosophy is amazingly prodigious," justice Thomas had said about justice Paripoornan in his memoir.
Talking to TOI about justice Paripoornan's demise, justice Thomas said, "We had been together as judges of a division bench for a very long time. We were the only ones who were Supreme Court judges from Kerala at the same time. So we were personally very close to each other. I have not seen a person more scholarly than him and I doubt whether the Kerala high court had anybody more scholarly than him. He was the one who introduced to the high court the practice of summoning government secretaries directly to the court if orders are not implemented. He was very strict and secretaries used to be afraid to appear before him. Summoning of government officials to court proved to be very effective during his time." 83-year-old Paripoornan was admitted to Medical Trust Hospital here last night due to kidney and heart related problems. He died at 9.05 pm tonight, the sources said.He began his career as an advocate in the High Court of then Travancore-Cochin in 1956.He practised in civil, taxation and general matters in the Kerala High Court and occasionally in the Supreme Court and Tribunal also.He worked as Government counsel in the Kerala High Court from 1966 to 1980.
