The
Onam celebrations of the students of IHRD, Adoor, allegedly crossed all the
limits when they splashed water from a tanker of Fire and Rescue Services and
danced on the road. They also used a crane, tractor, lorry and an open jeep for
their procession in which girl students too took part. The students also
boarded a KSRTC bus causing disturbance to the passengers. It is yet to be found
out how the students caught hold of a Fire and Rescue Services' vehicle for
their use. The DGP (Fire Force) has asked the Kottayam divisional officer to give
an explanation on the issue by Monday. It is alleged that the students misused
the vehicle meant for public service. It is believed that the students had
booked the vehicle.
When
the issue was widely discussed on various social media platforms, the students
claimed that they did not disturb the public during their celebrations and that
similar kind of Onam celebrations were happening for a few years."The Fire
Force vehicle and the KSRTC bus were booked by us, contrary to reports. It was
not the influence of any movies like 'Premam'. Last year too, we celebrated
Onam in a similar manner. There are photos from previous years. We have not
broken the law, we have not committed any criminal offence," the students
said on Facebook. The death of a student of College of Engineering,
Thiruvananthapuram, due to injuries sustained in an accident occurred during
Onam celebrations on the campus the other day had provoked debates over the nature
of celebrations at college campuses. The tragic incident has even prompted the
Kerala government to think of chalking out guidelines for conducting
celebrations on campuses.അടൂര് ഐ.എച്ച്.ആര്.ഡി. എന്ജിനിയറിങ് കോളേജിലെ വിദ്യാര്ഥികള്
