The Young Leaders Program
visits CCs in Cape Town and Nairobi
CC members and
external partners in Kenya have come together under the Youth Leadership
Program to design a platform for young leaders to meet, share best practices,
create community and provide resources, expertise and support for each other.Krithika
Harish, the Associate Director of Global Programmes for Network Development and
Matthew Youde, Associate Director of Global Programs for Youth Leadership
Development visited the region and collaborated with youth ambassadors Nyambura
Mundia and Catherine Kiama, and Hannington Wako from the youth programs office
in the URI Great Lakes region in designing the platform. The sessions were
characterized by interactive dialogues, workshops and CC visits, filled with
enthusiasm to launch a platform to influence interfaith work and youth
leadership nationally.
Majority of CCs in Kenya are based in Nairobi. Six of them
are youth-led and are working on common themes such as education, mentorship,
women's empowerment, civic education and governance.Having started their
journey in Cape Town, the youngest URI regional office in Africa, Matthew and
Krithika spearheaded the orientation of the Young Leaders Program, URI core
practices and appreciative inquiry to the new regional staff besides meeting
key young leaders in the zone to discuss regional growth strategies. To
strengthen their knowledge, a youth leadership and capacity-building training
will be held in August to coincide with the URI Southern Africa Zonal Assembly
in Malawi.
