The 'Green Rule Campaign'
launched
On the occasion of
the 2015 World Environment Day, URI Africa together with the United Nations
Environmental Programme (UNEP) regional office for Africa, launched the “Green
Rule campaign” in Nairobi in June aimed at enhancing environmental protection
and raise awareness on the effects of climate change. The Green Rule draws on
scriptures from different religions to advocate for environmental protection as
a universal principle based on the message of the Green Rule: “Do unto the
earth as you would have it do unto you.” The principle is selected from
numerous religious texts and spiritual traditions and was chosen to demonstrate
that each religion and spiritual philosophy has a long-standing tradition of
ecological stewardship.
URI Africa and UNEP
stand together in promoting the initiative of the Green Rule Campaign and call
on different religions in Africa to work together for environmental
conservation.
