KUFRI-SHIMLA

St. Gregorios College ART ( Association of Retired Teachers) members visited KUFRI- SHIMLA  on 27th April,2014.The highest point in the surrounding region[Kufri has a Himalayan Wild Life Zoo which hosts rare Antelopes, Felines and Birds including Himalayan Monal  , the state bird of Himachal Pradesh. During winter a meandering path through the potato plantations turns into a popular Ski track.Just 18 Kilometers from Shimla Kufri at an altitude of 2510 m is the most popular tourist spot around Shimla. The Kufri Shimla distance can be covered in half an hour by car. This place is famous for hiking, skiing, beautiful scenes and a cool environment. The Skiing season spreads between November to February and the tourist inflow is at its peak during winters because everyone lands up here to ski and throw snowballs at each other.
Kufri’s altitude is 500 meters higher than Shimla, so this place is colder than Shimla. On an average the temperature in Kufri is 3 to 5 degrees less than Shimla. Kufri receives more snowfall than Shimla.Kufri weather is pleasant in April May and June months with nature at its best. December January and February months are famous for winter sports and playing in the snow. Due to heavy snowfall in winter months the roads get blocked and there is disruption in traffic also.Kufri has a number of tourist spots for sightseeing offering panoramic views of the distant Himalayas apart from its beautiful natural surroundings. The main attraction of the scenic Kufri however lies in the adventure options that are offered here.Horse riding is one of the most popular activity tourists can enjoy here. This is not only a leisure but to reach some places horses are the sole means of travel. While in Kufri horse riding is a must in order to explore the highland of Kufri. Starting from the base of Himalayan National Park, tourists can enjoy a visit to the apple orchards, temples in just Rs 150. If you are lucky to visit on a clear evening, the mesmerizing sunset at the Himalayan ranges can also be enjoyed. Horse riding is a perfect place to explore some of the camouflaged areas and woodlands of the town which cannot be accessed by any other means of travel.
