ADOPTION CENTRE FOR PUPPIES

ADOPTION CENTER FOR PUPPIES
To find a solution to the stray dog menace in the city, the Kollam unit of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is launching an adoption centre for abandoned and stray puppies. District panchayat president S. Jayamohan will inaugurate the centre, a scheme of the Animal Husbandry Department (AHD), on December 4.Under the scheme, the puppies will be sterilised and vaccinated and given for adoption when they are two months old. The centre has already received 60 applications for the puppies. Veterinary officer and technical expert to the SPCA B. Aravind said the scheme was the first of its kind in the State.
The thrust would be to rescue and provide a better home for female puppies. Dr. Aravind said people were reluctant to adopt female puppies. Female dogs were better adapted to the human environment. With sterilisation, the female dogs would not conceive.
