KERALA BIRD RACE
The
seventh Kerala Bird Race, intended to record the presence of various species of
birds and encourage bird-watching as a hobby among people, will be held in
Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kozhikode on November 10,2013.Organised by WWF
India, Kerala Birder, and Yuhina Eco-Media, bird-watchers will spend the entire
day for birding in and around Thiruvananthapuram. There will be six birding
sites where the participants could watch birds. The services of experts from
WWF India will also be available.WWF-India State Director Renjan Mathew
Varghese said the participants would try to record as many species of birds as
possible and learn about the finer aspects of bird-watching from the experts.
The
participants would meet the experts in the city on the same day to share,
discuss, and refine their findings. For the first time, the Bird Race will be
non-competitive. The plan is to see how many birds could be sighted on a day.
There were no governing rules and the focus would be on stimulating an interest
in bird-watching, WWF sources said. Those who intended to take part may sent a
mail to wwfklso@gmail.com. For more details, contact: A.K. Sivakumar, Senior
Education Officer, WWF-India. The phone number is: 94473 86978.
