KURAKAR CULTURAL TEAM VISITED KALLADA VALIYA PALLY AND MAR ANDREWS MEMORIAL PLACES
Kottarakara based Kurakar Cultural Forum visited Kallada Valiyapally and Mar Andrews Bava’s memorial places on 2nd March,2013, the  Holly Perunall day of Mar Andrewsbava . The team includes Prof. John Kurakar, Mr. George Mathew Kurakar, Prof. Molly Kurakar, Mrs. Saly George Kurakar, Mr. Manu Kurakar, Master Athul George Kurakar and  Aarsha George Kurakar. Kallada Valiya Pally  is an old Syrian Orthodox Church is a reputed pilgrim centre. And it is special in many ways.
The Church, which was reconstructed four times, still has the wooden parts of the old church. Symbolising the harmonious co-existence of different religions in Kerala, a 700 years old wooden beam bears a Muslim Crescent, a Hindu symbol and Cross.   It is located at Kallada around 25 kilometres from Kollam and can be reached by road. The arrival of St.Thomas the Apostle in Kerala in A.D52 laid the foundation of hristanity in Kerala. He Esablished seven Churches. Kollam was also his Center of Missionary work. In A.D 823, a group of Syrian immigrants came to Kollam. They included Mar Sapor and Mar Afrod. They erected a church there. The community dispersed and they migrated to nearby places. It is believed one group came to Kallada. The present Kallada Valiya Pally is in the name of St.Mary. It was originally at Elavukkavu on the eastern bank of the Kallada River.
