                                            KURAKAR CULTURAL FORUM VISITED MUNDROTHURUTHU

KURAKAR CULTURAL FORUM VISITED MUNDROTHURUTHU
Kottarkara based Kurakar Cultural Forum executive committee visited the developing tourist center Mundrothuruthu on 2nd March, 2013. The team includes Prof. John Kurakar, George Mathew Kurakar, Prof. Molly Kurakar, Mrs. Sally George Kurakar, Mr. Manu Kurakar, Master Athul Kurakar and Aarsha Kurakar
Mundrothuruthu is a Village in Chittumala Taluk , Kollam District , Kerala State . Mundrothuruthu is located 9.7 km distance from its Taluk Main Town Chittumala . Mundrothuruthu is 9.6 km far from its District Main City Kollam.
Near By Villages of this Village with distance are Thevalakkara(2.1 k.m.) ,Panmana(2.9 k.m.) ,Chavara(4.5 k.m.) ,West Kallada(4.8 k.m.) ,Thrikkaruva(5.3 k.m.) ,. Nearest Towns are Chavara(4.5 k.m.) ,Anchalummood(5.3 k.m.) ,Sasthamcottah(5.3 k.m.) ,Karunagappally(8.4 k.m.) ,Kundara , Perayam , Perinad , Chittumala , Kizhakkekallada , Mundrothuruthu Mundrothuruthu is inhabited by about 25,000 people and is located at the confluence of the famous Ashtamudi Lake and Kallada River.
The living condition of the populace here is deteriorating as the development of the Gram Panchayat is practically non-existent. Road connectivity in Mundrothuruthu is pathetic and there are several areas with no pacca roads. The amount of funds necessary for the construction of roads cannot be met neither by the Mundrothuruthu Gram Panchayat nor by the State Government. Apart from that, bridges are to be built in order to facilitate connectivity with the island to connect the lake and river with land portion. Inadequacy of basic facilities like drinking water, sanitation, electricity and road transport facilities are hampering the progress and development of the residents there.
The Mundrothuruthu railway station does not fully benefit the people as long distance trains do not stop here. The huge potential for backwater tourism in this island has also not been explored properly. The lack of specific projects for the comprehensive development for Mundrothuruthu has left the people here in a state of absolute uncertainty.  Therefore, under these circumstances, we, the Kurakar Cultural Forum demand the Union Government to conceptualize a special package for Munroethuruthu Island for the development and progress of the people living there.

Prof. John Kurakar
