ACCIDENT-FREE ROADS

PWD minister VK Ibrahim Kunju said Rs 57 crore has been allotted to make roads accident free in the wake of gas tanker mishap in Chala, Kannur. Rs 24 crore has been allotted to renovate 216 black spots identified as accident prone areas and Rs 33.13 crore for removing dividers set up unscientifically. Rs 12 crore would be spent on renovating Chala bypass and adjacent roads alone. Rs 2.5 cr to renovate the Chala Nadar bypass road. A decision has been taken to renovate from Thazhe Chowa to Puthiyatheru with the rest Rs 10 crore.

Street lights and high mass lights will be set up on Chala road. Rs 25 lakh is also allotted to redress traffic issues in Thazhe Chowa and Koothuparampa road.The unscientific dividers will be removed as a precautionary measure. A committee led by district collector and district police head has been formed in each district. They will lead the removal of ad boards on national and state highways.In accident-prone areas, blinker lights, traffic signal lights and boards will be placed.
