TEARFUL FAREWELL TO K. PANKAJAKSHAN
Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) leader
and the former Minister K. Pankajakshan, 84, who passed away on Tuesday, 28th
August,2012, was cremated with full State honours on the premises of the
Titanium Labour Union office at Chakka here on Thursday,30th August.The
funeral procession started from the RSP State Committee office at PMG Junction,
passing through Palayam and the General Hospital junction.Earlier, Chief
Minister Oommen Chandy, Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan, Speaker G.
Karthikeyan, Finance Minister K.M. Mani, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar, Labour
Minister Shibu Baby John, LDF convener Vaikom Viswan, the former Ministers N.K.
Premachandran, C. Divakaran, Kadannapally Ramachandran, M. Vijayakumar, and CPI
State unit secretary Pannian Ravindran were among the several hundreds who
turned up to pay homage to the late leader.
RSP State unit secretary A.A. Azeez, MLA,
and leaders T.J. Chandrachoodan and V.P. Ramakrishna Pillai were present
throughout the day as Mr. Pankajakshan’s mortal remains were first brought to
VJT Hall around 11 a.m. from his residence at Pettah.The VJT Hall, where public
viewing was allowed from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., and later the RSP State Office,
where the body was kept from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., also saw people from various
walks of life arriving to pay last respects to the mortal remains of their leader
who was popular as ‘Pankan Annan.’sRSP units from across the State reached the
State capital, apart from several activists of the Revolutionary Youth Front.The
heavy showers that began soon after the funeral procession left PMG and
continued for over an hour did not deter many more who came to witness the last
rites at Chakka.
