POOJAPPURA JAIL DISHES OUT
ONASADYA KITS
Joining
in the spirit of Onam, the inmates of the Poojappura Central Prison prepared as
many as 1,000 Onasadya kits on the Thiruvonam day Wednesday(29th
August,2012), which were sold at a nominal rate of Rs.30 through the prison’s
mobile sales units. Like the Poojappura chapatti, the sadya was an instant hit
and all the kits were sold out in less than two hours Actor Sona Nair flagged
off the three mobile units at a function held on the prison premises on
Wednesday. She also joined in the Onam celebrations at the prison. The
preparations for the ‘Onam sadya kits’ had begun on Uthradom day on Tuesday.
The
inmates decided the curries and other delicacies for the kit. And for payasam,
they settled for nothing less than the mouth-watering ‘adapradhaman.’ As many
as 60 prisoners were involved in the preparation of the sadya. On Thiruvonam day,
the inmates enjoyed the visit of ‘Mahabali’ who was accompanied by other
guests, including ADGP Alexander Jacob. ‘Pookkalam’ competition and ‘pulikkali’
were held as part of the celebrations. After the celebrations, the three mobile
units were flagged off which toured the Medical College Hospital, General
Hospital, East Fort, Mother and Child Hospital and places near railway station.“The
kit also included banana leaves. Just like the chapatti and chicken curry, we
decided to sell the sadya for a nominal price. There was a tremendous response
from the people as the kits were affordable,” said Jail Superintendent B.
