URI INTERNATIONAL PEACE RESEARCH INSTITUTE
URI International Peace Research Institute was inaugurated by Swami Chaturvedi of Ramanuja Mission Trust. Dr. Joseph Marthoma Metropolitan presided over the special meeting. Rev Dr. Charles Gibbs (URI Exe Director inaugurated the Endowment Fund. Swami Chaturvedi, Dr. Abraham Karickom and John Weiser contributed one lakh rupees. This Institute is a complementary unit of URI Travelling Peace Academy,which is organizing Peace Building Institutes in different parts of the world.
The aim of URI International Peace Research Institute
1-A World with out wars and weapons. 2- To save Earth for our Grand Children and their Grand Children.3- Health Care for all. Our goal is to establish a full fledged Peace research Institute to support the URI Travelling Peace Academy, which is already giving training in Peace Building and conflict transformation,in different parts of the world. In order to strengthen peace programmes and trainings, all those involved have to be well trained. They should have all the important facts and figures about ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world. How much money is being pumped in to war and allied items,the reasons behind big and small conflicts and so on. This will be a resource center that can supply any information to our peace builders around the globe.
The URI Traveling Academy is taking roots in different corners of the world and it can easily use this institute as a very strategic training sites This will be a wonderful location which is cheap and safe,with all infra-structure facilities. The availability of well trained resource persons is also an added advantage. We have four professors from different disciplines,who have undergone Peace Building under great leaders in the field. Dr John Paul Lederach and Dr. Herm Weaver- of United States. Training sessions were held in countries like the U.S (twice),India ,Uganda,Philippines and Ethiopia within a span of two years. Any other trainer from any part of the world can also be brought easily to this part. All together we have 25 well trained faculty members around the globe,whose service can be made use of any time. We have also developed effective training materials and other resources including Peace Building Guides and Videos. Training Programs under the TPA banner were successfully held recently in the Philippines,India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Many more are being planned in different regions.
Our immediate step will be to raise one crore rupees (100,000,00-approximately 2,25,000 U.S dollars) as a fixed endowment,the interest of which willbe used exclusively for the day today functioning of the institute. Those who contribute 100,000 (one lakh rupees or more will be honored as patrons and their names will be displayed in the office in befitting manner.
After ensuring the reserves fund for a long term basis, there will be attempts to raise sufficient funds for a suitable site for the Institute.Land and building will cost the same amount as stated above. At present we can make use of available facilities attached to the URI office,Karickom. We have a two story building with a conference hall and facilities for trainings.All facilities of the Karickom International Public School, very near to the office can also be used for training purpose.
Cosmic Community Center,Karickom which is registered with the Indian Central Ministry of Home Affairs for receiving foreign contributions will be the promoters of IPRI. CCC is a reputed cooperation circle of United Religions Initiative with office at Karickom in the District of Kollam in Kerala. Its activities at present include Peace Building Institutes,International Day of Peace and Interfaith Harmony Week, Study Pilgrimages to various religious Centres, Cancer Care and Palliative Centre, Environment Protection Programs, Celebration of Religious Festivals,Leadership Training,Promotion of Interfaith Students Movements in Schools and Colleges, Facilitating Interfaith and Inter-cultural Dialogues, publications and so on. "Interfaith Link" is its journal
