                                          TENSION ERUPTED
              AT KOLLAM SANKER'S HOSPITAL

Tension at Kollam Sankar's Hospital following strike by nurses. A nurse, identified as Ashwathy, who was injured in  the melee, was admitted to the District Hospital.  The nurses said after serving their demand notice to the management on Saturday,26th November,2011,they reported for duty on Sunday,27th November wearing black badges. The Management asked those wearing black badges not to report for duty. This led to the nurses declaring a strike. Then a gang suddenly appeared and allegedly attempted to assault the nurses as strike.
The development led to the nurses blocking the Kollam Shencotta National Highway in front of the hospital in the afternoon. The police arrived and removed the protesters. The nurses held a demonstration and lodged a complaint with the city police Commissioner against those who attempted to assault them. The demands raise by the striking nurses include arise in pay, revision of duty time, and payment of benefits. The hospital Management said the strike under the banner of the Indian Registered Nurses Association was aimed at destroying the hospital.
