  Bicycle is a safe modes of Transport.M.S Athirup ,an engineer-turned- entrepreneur, who has successfully launched the unique" Athi's Bicycle Club' initiative across the state.
    The enterprise offers a simple economical, eco-friendly and healthy solution to commuters by offering an integrated by-cycle lending net work, with cycle racks at prominent junctions that makes travel hassle free. 
  If you  are a registered member of the club,you can hire a cycle from a rack near by and leave it at a rack which is adjacent to your destination. At a rent of Rs2 an hour, it is doubtless the cheapest means of transport available. The club operation is mobile phone driven. Cycle enthusiasts can subscribe to the club membership by registering themselves by making a call from their cell phones to 9645511155 and providing basic personal details like name ,age, address and e-mail. They need to make a down payment of   Rs 500 as well.
   The club functions on the principle of collaborative consumption. The programme launch in the Kochi city on May 20. The club currently has racks near the north Railway sation, Kacheripadi, Menaka,Boat Jetty,Panampilly Nagar,Kaloor,Padma, Thevara, South Railway station and Kadavanthara and more racks are in offing at other locations in the city.


  How it operate is simple.Once you are a registered member, all you have to do is approach the nearest rack and sms the lock number to 9645511155. The  code to open the lock will be messaged back to you. As you reach your destination, you need to respect the procedure to fasten the cycle to the nearest rack and deposit the rent at the drop box kept there.  This would be most useful to railway passengers commuting between cities. The venture has struck gold in Thiruvananthapuram with scores of people joining the club over the past month.
