The western India passengers association has urged Railways and the state to take urgent initiative to get more direct trains at least three from the state to Mumbai via konkan in the coming Railway Budget.
The existing services are grossly in adequate for an estimated 20 lakh keralities working in various regions of Maharashtra and another five to eight lakh in Gujarat. Besides,Munnar and Thekkady are preferred tourist destinations of middle class families in the two states.

The Kurla Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Kochuveli GaribRath's frequency should be increased from bi weekly to daily. Thiruvananthapuram weekly train should be diverted via konkan as a daily train.Like wise the popular Mangala Express from Ernakulam to Nizamuddin should be extended to kochuveli or kollam to r to the needs of the southern districts
