MYANMAR’S PRO-DEMOCRACY LEADER
AUNG SAN SUU KYI
          Myanmar’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi was set free from house arrest in Yangon on Saturday 13rd  November,2010.
          The 65 year old Ms Suu Kyi’s release was greeted by cheering supporters. The Association of Southest Asian Nations(ASEAN) expressed relief over member-state Myanmar’s action of setting Ms Suu Kyi free at least now.
          Myanmar’s military establishment have subjected Ms Suu kyi to several terms of house arrest and a few spells in prison, for about 15 years in all since 1989. She led the NLD to a land slide victory in the country’s free elctions in 1990 but was not allowed to lead a civilian government walking free the first time since 2003.
          India on Saturday 13th November 2010 welcomed the release of pro-democracy leader by the military regime in Myanmar, terming it as a step towards the process of reconciliation in that country.
          Aung San Suu Kyi,told thousands of widely cheering supporters on Sunday 14th November that she would continue to fight for human rights and the rule of law in military controlled nation. She said” I believe in human rights and I believe in the rule of law. I will always fight for these things’ I went to work with all democratic forces and I need the support of the people.
