PROF.JOHN KURAKAR INAUGURATED THE READERS FESTIVAL

Prof. John Kurakar, president, Kerala Kavya Kala Sahithy inaugurated the Readers day Festival and award ddistribution function held at Buisness Champer,Kottarakara on 19th June,2010 at 3 pm.The State government observes June 19 as the day of reading every year with weeklong celebrations to honour the contribution of P.N Panicker to the Library movement.
Prof.Kurakar said that people should engage in reading not to while away time, but to ignite their minds. Function was organised by Mithra Mandalam- a cultural association. Mr Kurakar again said Readidng should be intended for growth of culturaal out look and social change. He said the Late P.N Panicker was a man who worked with such an out look. Panicker also travelled widely across the state to promote reading, especially by establishing rural libraries. He again said’ while reading enhances creative thinking, visual medium limitsimagination. ‘Reading will help character formation. Literature should be included in the sylabus of professonal courses’ he said.
The Mithramandalam association honoured and felicitated the cultural and Literary leaders such as Prof Ponnara Saraswathy, Sri N.P Punthala and Sri R.P Sumumaran Nair.
Advocate Vakkanad Vijayan, secretary,Mitra Mandalam welcomed the gathering. Advocate T.S Vidyadharan presided over the function. Brama Sri Thazava S.N Potti, Advocate T.P Mohandas, Advocate Mohandas, Sri Manoj Punalur,Dr Manoj Varghese,Dr. S. Madhusoodhanan, Dr S.R Binu raj, Sri Neelaswaram Sadasi van were spoke on the occasion. Sri Suresh Pyngad expressed vote of thanks.
