SEMINAR ON TRAFFIC AWARNESS AT KOTTARAKARA
SEMINAR
ON
TRAFFIC AWARNESS AT KOTTARAKARA
Inspector General of police ( Traffic) B. Sandhya has said road culture that eliminates drunk driving was the need of the hour. She was delivering the keynote address at a seminar on Traffic awareness at Kottarakara on Tuesday 5th January, 2010.
Ms Sandhya said the penalty of Rs 3000 for drunk driving was too low as the fine was stipulated under traffic rules formulated in 1939. She said, in her opinion a fine of Rs 30,000 was not that big a penalty for drunk driving. She said roads were essential aspects of day to day life and had to be used with utmost care.
Life is not something to be lost in road accidents. In all other states, the width of the national high way is at least 60 meters, which is 35 meters in kerala. This is one of the prime causes for the high rate of accidents here.
She wanted road users to take a pledge that they would not violate traffic rules and cause road accidents. This was important in a state like Kerala where most of the roads were narrow and a poor quality.
