CHILDREN'S SCIENCE CONGRESS


The Children's Science Congress (CSC) organized as part of the 97th Indian Science Congress at Karyavattom concluded Wednesday 6th January 2010.
Delivering the valedictory address, Indian Institutes of space science and Technology Director B.N Suresh said “ the focus of science and technology should be to improve the life of the Common man and benefit society. Scientific events like this congress help achieve this by empowering empowering the future generation to meet these challenges.
The Director said that improving the higher education system in the country would be the biggest requirement of India in the 21st century . According to statistics, only one sixth of the youth graduating out of colleges in India are employable.
' india will soon have the largest young population in the whole world. And this human power will be our biggest resource. So we need to empower them now so that they can the task to meet the challenges ahead” he said
Mr Suresh said the advancement in space research in India had impacted each and every human being in the country” people often ask why we spend so much money for space research. But the budget that is spent for space research in our country is only three percent of that NASA has spend 33 percent of what china has spend. And we have provided a wide range of service to the common man in terms of communication, tele-education, tele medicine tele-education, disaster management etc he said.
As many as 3500 students from across the country participated in the children's science Congress. The students interacted with eminent personalities in the field of science and technology in the three-day function. A students science exhibition was also conducted as part of the CSC.
