KILLED MORE THAN 200,000 PEOPLE IN THE CARIBBEAN NATION
Streets in the Haitian capital port-Au-prince were lined with bloodied, twisted bodies and the injured on Wednesday 13th January 2010 after a massive earthquake ripped apart the city on Tuesday. Thousands are feared dead in the catastrophe. 7.0 magnitude quake flattened ever the sturdiest buildings, the dust and debris- covered city was hit by dozens of powerful after shocks, forcing the survivors to seek shelter on the streets.
Two million people live in the densely populated capital of the impoverished Caribbean nation, president Rene Praval appealed for help. He said' parliament has collapsed. The tax office has collapsed, Schools have collapsed. Hospitals have collapsed. No corner of the city was spared from the wave of destruction.
The head quarters of the united nations mission on the country was flattened and scores were missing. The five-story concrete building, known as the Christopher Hotel and located on the road to petionville has collapsed.
The prominent died along with the poor. The body of Archbishop Joseph serge miot (63) was found in the ruins of his office. The international Red cross and other aid groups announced plans for major relief operations in the western hemisphere's poorest country.
Thee have been some incident where people were looting or fighting for food. They are desperate, they have been three days with out food or any assistance. The weaken Haitian government was in no better position to handle the crisis. The quake destroyed the presidential palace and knocked out communication and power. The pan American Health Organization said at least eight hospitals and health centers in port-an- prince collapsed or were damaged. We have nothing not even water'
