The International Leptospirosis society is working towards eradicating the disease by 2015. The six annual meeting of the International Leptospirosis society that will conclude on Thursday 24 th September 2009 at Kochi. The Group was set up by the WHO to co-ordinate global research and action against Leptospirosis.
Leptospirosis (rat fever) needed special care as the infection could lead to a multi-organ failure if left un treated. Early treatment is important. Those working in open fields are more susceptible to this infection as it spreads through the medium of rat urine. Mortality from the disease continues to be around 20- 24 percent, in spite of its treatable condition. Every district in the state has reported sporadic occurrence of the disease.
