COBRA DISRUPTS
ORISSA ASSEMBLY
A cobra disrupts Orison Assembly on Thursday 23rd July 2009. The snake was spotted near the desk of chief minister Naveen Patnaik early in the morning. And search continued through the day.
The House was adjourned twice during the morning session and twice in the afternoon before it was finally adjourned for the day.
A search operation by the Assembly staff, personnel from the wild life department and experts from a city based snake helpline continued till the night
At the end of the day, it was decided that the proceedings will be conducted as usual on Friday with a doctor and a snake expert waiting out side to act incase of an emergency.
The snake was spotted around 7 a.m. a sweeper went to clean the floor of the House. On hearing his shouts for help, a watchman rushed near Mr. Patnaik’s desk. The snake slithered away when the watch man tried to chase it with a bench. It was not spotted again despite the efforts of experts from helpline and zoological park staff. The House was adjourned soon after it assembled at 10.30 am Mr. Patnaik and other leads took stock of the situation
