H.G Zaacharia Mar Anthonios took charge on Wednesday, 1st April 2009 as the new Bishop of the Kollam diocese of Malankara Orthidox Syrian Church. Prior to taking charge of the kollam diocese, he was serving as Bishop of Kochi dioces. The Bishop was given a grand reception at Kollam. He becomes the seventh Bishop of the kollam Malankara Orthodox diocese. The appointment is consequent upon the demise of the sixth Kollam Bishop H.G Mathew Mar Epiphaninous.
Mar Anthonios was born on July 1946 to W.C Abraham and Mariamma at Punalur in Kollam district. The priest had a long stint at Kollam serv ing as the manager of the Bishop’s House and as Parish priest in many parishes including Nedumbai kulam, Kulathupuzha, and Kollam Kadeesa. He was elected to the post of Metropolitan in December 1989 and was consecrated Bishop on April 30, 1991. He was then given charge of the Kochi diocese. He is also the president of the All Malankara Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam and Sleebadasa group. The Kollam diocese of the orthodox church was formed in 1876. It has 132 parishes and three Cathedrals
