KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on 26 July to commemorate India's victory in the Kargil War of 1999 against Pakistani intruders in the Kargil district of Ladakh (then part of Jammu and Kashmir). The day honors the extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and patriotism of the officers and soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who fought under extremely difficult conditions to safeguard the nation's sovereignty.

The Kargil War lasted from May to July 1999, with Indian forces successfully recapturing strategic mountain peaks that had been occupied by enemy forces. On 26 July 1999, India officially declared the successful completion of Operation Vijay, marking a historic military victory.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed across the country with wreath-laying ceremonies, memorial services, patriotic events, and tributes to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation. The main commemorative ceremony is held at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh, where military leaders, veterans, and citizens pay homage to the fallen heroes.
