Panchalimedu is a famous for religious  tourist centre.  This is a hill station and view point near Kuttikkanam in Peerumedu of Idukki district in Kerala. On the Makar Sankranti day, lots of Ayyappa devotees camps there to witness the sacred Makaravilakku that appears in the Ponnambalamedu near Sabarimala temple.. The road to Panchalimedu is narrow and full of curves. One can enjoy the beauty of the hills throughout this journey.This is a beautiful location with small hills. We can easily climb this small hills. From the top of the hill we can see the beauty of the hills and valley. We can see many hills from this place. The greenery of this location make this location very enjoyable. But the calm and quite atmosphere here is another attraction.One can visit the near by location Parunthumpara also in the same day

The hilltop is known for a temple and 14 holy crosses situated there. A few days ago, members of a Hindu right wing group placed a trident near one of the crosses alleging that the Christian community has been trying to encroach upon government land.After the Revenue Department officials issued a notice to the St Mary’s church authorities at Kanayankavayal in Idukki to remove the crosses erected on revenue land in Panchalimedu near Kuttikkanam, the church authorities on Tuesday removed the wooden crosses put up during last Good Friday.However, the church did not remove the 14 concrete crosses erected on the land 65 years ago. Although the crosses have been there at Panchalimedu since 1954 and a temple dedicated to Bhuvaneshwari near it on the same revenue land for the past several years, the controversy erupted recently when the church authorities installed two new wooden crosses during the Way of the Cross procession during last Good Friday. Meanwhile, a right-wing Hindu group also installed a trident (Trishul) near the cross, protesting against the alleged attempt by the Church to encroach upon revenue land.

“Both the cross and the temple are now staying on government land, which is estimated to over 50 acres. If the land owned by the government should be reclaimed, both the structures have to be removed. Since the issues are related to believers of two religious communities, action will be taken only after conducting a joint meeting with the temple and the church authorities,” he said.St Mary’s church vicar Fr James said the church had installed the crosses in 1954, when the whole land at Panchalimedu was held by two families in the high ranges- Kallivayalil and Karimbanal.“However, when the government passed the Land Reforms Act in 1963, the land was taken over by the Revenue Department. The crosses still remain there and the parishioners have been offering prayers at the crosses on all Good Fridays for the past 65 years,” he said.The Kerala government intervened to stop the removal of crosses planted by a Church on encroached land in Panchalimedu. An FIR has also been registered against a group of unidentified men who had placed a Trishul in front of the illegally planted crosses.The revenue land also includes an ancient Bhuvaneswari temple, under the Travancore Devaswom Board. President of the local governing body, Binu told India Today TV that external elements are trying to create tension in the area."Usually devotees from all communities come and they don't have any problem with each other. During the last Easter, some devotees kept a wooden cross, which they had carried as part of a ritual, on the hill top. This is the usual practice every year.

പാഞ്ചാലിമേട്ടിലെ കുരിശ് നിൽക്കുന്നതടക്കമുള്ള ഭൂമി തങ്ങളുടേതെന്ന ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്‍റെ വാദം ജില്ലാ കളക്ടർ തള്ളി.ഒരിഞ്ച് ഭൂമി പോലും ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിനില്ല, അമ്പലമടക്കം എല്ലാം കയ്യേറ്റമാണെന്നും ജില്ലാ കളക്ടർ എച്ച് ദിനേശൻ പറഞ്ഞു. പാഞ്ചാലിമേട്ടിൽ കുരിശുകൾ നാട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നത് ആരുടെ ഭൂമിയിലാണെന്ന് ഹൈക്കോടതി റിപ്പോർട്ട് തേടിയതിന് പിന്നാലെയാണ് കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡ് പ്രസിഡന്റ് എ പത്മകുമാർ സ്ഥലം സന്ദശിച്ചത്. ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന് ഇവിടെ ഒരിഞ്ച് ഭൂമിയില്ലന്ന് ജില്ലാ കളക്ടർ വ്യക്തമാക്കി. എല്ലാം സർക്കാർ ഏറ്റെടുത്ത മിച്ചഭൂമിയാണെന്നാണ്  ഇടുക്കി കളക്ടർ .എച്ച് ദിനേശൻ രേഖകള്‍ ഉദ്ധരിച്ച് പറയുന്നത്.പാഞ്ചാലിമേട്ടിലെ സർക്കാർ പ്രദേശത്തെ കുരിശുകൾക്കെതിരെ പ്രതിഷേധവുമായി ഹിന്ദു സംഘടനകൾ; കോൺക്രീറ്റ് കുരിശിനോട് ചേർന്ന് ശൂലം നാട്ടി . സർക്കാർ ഭൂമിയിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രവും പൊളിച്ച് നീക്കണണമെന്ന് ക്രൈസ്തവ വിശ്വാസികൾ. കോടതി ഉത്തരവ് അനുസരിച്ച് എല്ലാ കൈയ്യേറ്റങ്ങളും വേണ്ടിവന്നാൽ ഒഴിപ്പിക്കുമെന്നും കളക്ടർ വ്യക്തമാക്കി. ഇതോടെ പഞ്ചാലിമേട്ടിൽ റവന്യൂ വകുപ്പും ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡും തമ്മിലുള്ള ഏറ്റമുട്ടലിന് കൂടി വഴിയൊരുങ്ങുകയാണ്.കളക്ടറുടെ നിര്‍ദ്ദേശത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ കണയങ്കവയല്‍ സെന്റ് മേരീസ് ചര്‍ച്ച് കഴിഞ്ഞ ദുഖവെള്ളിക്ക് സ്ഥാപിച്ച മരക്കുരിശുകള്‍ നീക്കം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. അതേസമയം ആദ്യകാലം തൊട്ടുള്ള 14 സിമന്റ് കുരിശുകള്‍ തുടരും. കേരളത്തിലെ മത സൗഹാർദ്ദം തകർക്കാൻ പാഞ്ചാലിമേട്ടിൽ ആരും ശ്രമിക്കരുത്  .
