URI TRAINING WORKSHOP ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND COMMUNITY BASED DISASTER MANAGEMENT


Training workshop on “climate change and community based Disaster Management” jointly organized by United Religions Initiative (URI) and Vishwa Yuvak Kendra in association with State Disaster Management Authority on 3rd August to 5th August,2017 at Kombady Episcopa; Jubilee Institute. 40 NGOs from Kerala, Tamil Nadu andKarndaka act5ively participated on the three day workshop. It was a big boost to URI and very popular among important organization. Very high officials were taken classes related to Disaster management including the additional chief secretary of the Kerala State Mr.P.H Kurian.
The Inauguration of the three long workshop was held on 3rd August at 2 p.m. Mr.Mathai kutty, executive secretary and Laison officer of URI South India region welcomed the delegates and guests.Dr. Abraham Karickam,Secretary General Asia Region of the URI Presided over the inaugural function. Dr.Sekhar L.Kuriakose,Member Secretary,KSDMM delivered Keynote address.Mr. Rajat Thomas Programme Division Officer, Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, Prof. John Kurakar, Global Council Trustee, Dr. Spencer V. Andrews,DDMN,Kollam were spoke on the occasion.
The second day training session began at 8 A.M. Disaster Management, Climate Change, Community basedDisaster Management, Skill Demonstration, Community action plan, Video show on disasters and cultural programes were included on the 2 nd day. Third day training session started on 5th August at 8 A.M. Community based Disaster Management-networking, Trauma and psycho social care Disaster management, A Christian perspective were the subjects included the final day.
The Valedictory ceremony was held at 11.30A.M.
Dr. Abraham Karickam delivered opening remarks. Mr. P.H Kurian IAS, additional Chief Secretary was the Chief Guest of the concluding session. Mr. Kurian also distributed certificates and awards to the participants.  Mr.K.G Mathai Kutty, Mr. Rajat Thomas, Prof. John Kurakar were given felicitation speeches. Mr. Muthu Kumaran from Thamil Nadu expressed vote of thanks.
