KERALA ON CHOLERA ALERT AFTER DETECTION
OF THREE CASES
കോളറ വീണ്ടും തലപൊക്കുന്നു; സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് ജാഗ്രതാ നിര്‍ദേശം
The Health Department has sounded a
State-wide alert against cholera after three cases, including one death, were
reported from the two districts of Pathanamthitta and Kozhikode.In all three
cases, the patients were migrant labourers, once again drawing attention to the
poor conditions in which these people work and live. The first case of cholera
was reported from Pathanamthitta, wherein Biswajit Das, an 18-year-old migrant
worker from West Bengal, died on July 24.
Health officials said the youngster had
approached the hospital with acute diarrhoea after he returned from his native
place. Though he was advised admission he had gone home, only to get admitted
the next day.
However, he collapsed and died following severe dehydration.
Cholera was confirmed only after the autopsy, through a rectal swab, health
officials said.Two cases of cholera have been confirmed in one of the labour
camps at Mavoor, Kozhikode. However, both patients are undergoing treatment at
the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital.Senior health officials said that precautionary measures against
cholera had been stepped up in all districts and a campaign for the
superchlorination of water sources had started in Kozhikode.
District officials have been asked to focus on preventive and
control measures around all migrant labour camps. Water samples from water
sources are being sent for testing.Contaminated water supply are the main source of cholera
infection, although raw shellfish, uncooked fruits and vegetables, and other
food items also can harbour V. cholerae.Public have been asked to maintain utmost hygiene through
frequent hand washing, and using soap especially after visiting the toilet and
before eating food. People have also been cautioned to drink water only after
boiling. Oral rehydration salt solutions should be administered in case of
diarrhoea.
കേരളത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് തുടച്ചുനീക്കിയ മഹാമാരിയായ കോളറ വീണ്ടും തലപൊക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ലക്ഷണമാണ് കണ്ടുവരുന്നത്. ശുചിത്വവും ആരോഗ്യബോധവല്‍ക്കരണവും വഴി പടിക്കുപുറത്താക്കിയ കോളറ, സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ മൂന്ന് ഇതര സംസ്ഥാന തൊഴിലാളികളിലാണ് ഈയിടെ സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചത്.
സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് കോളറ കണ്ടെത്തിയ സാഹചര്യത്തില്‍ ആരോഗ്യവകുപ്പ് ജാഗ്രതാ നിര്‍ദേശം നല്‍കി. ഇതു സംബന്ധിച്ച് ജില്ലാ മെഡിക്കല്‍ ഓഫീസര്‍മാര്‍ക്കു നിര്‍ദേശം നല്‍കിയതായി മന്ത്രി കെ.കെ. ശൈലജ അറിയിച്ചു. ഇതര സംസ്ഥാനത്തൊഴിലാളികള്‍ താമസിക്കുന്ന മേഖലകളില്‍ പരിശോധന നടത്തണമെന്നും ജലശുദ്ധീകരണം ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ള പ്രതിരോധമാര്‍ഗങ്ങള്‍ ഉറപ്പുവരുത്തണമെന്നും നിര്‍ദേശമുണ്ട്.
കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലയിലെ കോളറ ബാധയെക്കുറിച്ച് അന്വേഷണം നടത്താന്‍ ആരോഗ്യവകുപ്പ് ഡപ്യൂട്ടി ഡയറക്ടര്‍ ഡോ. വി. മീനാക്ഷിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തില്‍ അഞ്ചംഗ വിദഗ്ധസംഘത്തെ നിയോഗിച്ചു. കോഴിക്കോടിന്റെ സമീപജില്ലയെന്ന നിലയില്‍ മലപ്പുറത്തും ഇവര്‍ പരിശോധന നടത്തും. കോഴിക്കോട്, മഞ്ചേരി മെഡിക്കല്‍ കോളജിലെ വിദഗ്ധരുമായി ചര്‍ച്ച നടത്താനും നിര്‍ദേശിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. പത്തനംതിട്ട, കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലകളിലായി ഇക്കൊല്ലം ഇതുവരെ മൂന്നു പേര്‍ക്കാണു കോളറ സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചത്. പത്തനംതിട്ട ജില്ലയില്‍ കോളറ ബാധിച്ച ഇതരസംസ്ഥാനത്തൊഴിലാളി മരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഏഴു പേര്‍ക്ക് കോളറ സംശയിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.
പത്തനംതിട്ട വള്ളിക്കോട്ടും കോഴിക്കോട്ടു മാവൂരിലും ഇതര സംസ്ഥാന തൊഴിലാളികളിലാണ് കോളറ ബാധ സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചത്. മാവൂരില്‍ 12
പേരില്‍ രോഗലക്ഷണങ്ങള്‍ കണ്ടെത്തി. ഇവിടെ കിണര്‍ വെള്ളത്തില്‍ കോളറ പരത്തുന്ന വിബ്രിയോ കോളറ ബാക്ടീരിയയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യം സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഒരു കിണര്‍ അടച്ചു മുദ്രവയ്ക്കാന്‍ നിര്‍ദേശിച്ചു. അഞ്ചു കിണറുകളിലെ വെള്ളം ഉപയോഗിക്കരുതെന്നും ഉത്തരവുണ്ട്.
മലപ്പുറത്ത് കുറ്റിപ്പുറത്തെ നാലു കിണറുകളില്‍ കോളറ ബാക്ടീരിയയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യം കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. അവയില്‍ മൂന്നെണ്ണം ഹോട്ടലുകള്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതാണ്. നാലു കിണറുകളും അടച്ചു മുദ്രവയ്ക്കണമെന്നു കലക്ടര്‍ ഉത്തരവിട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. താമസത്തിനെത്തിയ ഇതര സംസ്ഥാന തൊഴിലാളികളില്‍നിന്ന് കോളറ പടര്‍ന്നുവെന്നാണ് നിഗമനം. കഴിഞ്ഞ വര്‍ഷം ജൂലൈയില്‍ നാലുപേര്‍ ഈ മേഖലയില്‍ കോളറ ലക്ഷണങ്ങളോടെ മരിച്ചിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ, ആരോഗ്യവകുപ്പ് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടില്‍ ഇവരുടെ മരണകാരണം അതിസാരമാണ്. അന്ന് 17 പേര്‍ കോളറ ലക്ഷണങ്ങളോടെയും നൂറിലേറെപ്പേര്‍ അതിസാരം പിടിപെട്ടും ചികിത്സ തേടി.
