President M Karunanidhi on Wednesday announced his party's support for the
September 16 shutdown protest called by various organisations demanding Cauvery
river water from Karnataka. The shutdown protest was called by various
organisations representing the interests of farmers, truck owners and traders,
among others, and against the violence and arson indulged in by hooligans in
Karnataka damaging property worth several crores of rupees. In a
statement, Karunanidhi, acceding to the request of the organisations that had
called for the shutdown protest, said the DMK has decided to extend its support
to their call, reports IANS.
The Tamilnadu Petrol Bunk Association will
support the Bandh and all petrol bunk will be remaining closed from 6.00 AM to
6.00 PM. According to Livemint, nearly 3 lakh lorries will keep off the
roads till 6 PM as the lorry owners and drivers will take part in the bandh.
While auto and taxi transportation will come to a halt, MTC buses in Chennai
and other cities are expected to ply on Friday. Suburban train services and
metro rail services in Chennai will also operate. School, colleges and
other educational institutions too will be closed. 'All the private schools
will be shut tomorrow. No petrol bunks and private school vans are also not
working tomorrow so we cannot conduct classes. The children will be having
classes on Saturday,' reports quoted KR Nandakumar, General Secretary, Tamil
Nadu Nursery Primary Matriculation and CBSE (private) Schools Association as
saying. 20 lakh shops across the state will remain shut with traders' organisation
supporting the call, reported The New Indian Express. Vegetable markets will be
closed with wholesale fruit and vegetable markets across the state lending
support to the bandh call. According to the Koyambedu Licensed Merchants'
Association, more than 3500 shops at the Koyambedu wholesale market in Chennai
will remain shut. Milk supply too will be hit with private milk suppliers set
to join the bandh. However, Aavin Milk from the Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk
Producers' Federation Ltd will be available.

സംഘടനകൾ ആരോപിക്കുന്നത്.
അതേസമയം ഡി.എം.കെ, അണ്ണാ ഡി.എം.കെ ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള
പ്രമുഖ പാർട്ടികളൊന്നും ബന്ദിന് പിന്തുണ പ്രഖ്യപിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. കാവേരി പ്രശ്നത്തിൽ പ്രതിഷേധിച്ച് ഡി.എം.ഡി.കെ നേതാവ് വിജയകാന്ത് നാളെ മുതൽ അനിശ്ചിതകാല നിരാഹാര സമരം തുടങ്ങുമെന്ന് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
