ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ആദ്യ തക്കാളിമേള മേഘാലയയുടെ തലസ്ഥാനമായ ഷില്ലോങ്ങിൽ

Shillong, a city known as the 'abode of clouds’, recently hosted India's first ever ‘La Tomatina’ festival.Both locals and tourists made the most of the fun-filled festival that was organised to promote tourism in Meghalaya. Hundreds of people took part in the event that saw the use of several quintals of ripe tomatoes.Anthony Lyngdoh, Publicity Secretary of Amazing Colors of India (ACI), said that the international festival is being celebrated not only to provide a platform to the local upcoming talents, but also to promote tourism.

“This is basically an international festival, celebrate all over the world. We are giving the platform to local and upcoming talents. We are providing them a platform to showcase the talents. We are hoping for very good response and this kind of shows if we can organize from time to time it will only help promote tourism. When we started marketing and promotion for this event, till today we have been getting calls from all over. So people will be coming all over from other parts of the state,” he said.

The festival was held in collaboration with Directorate of Horticulture, Meghalaya and Khasi Jaintia Vegetable Sellers Association. The organisers made use of tomatoes discarded by local vegetable sellers.

“As soon as you hear the word La Tomatina, immediately tomato comes to your mind. But exactly it’s not only about tomatoes, it’s about you have games here; we have a lot of activities here. And the fact that we are keeping this event is for people to have fun,” said an organiser.“This is one of the biggest platforms for us so far. As far as far festival, it’s a Spanish festival which involves the tomatoes throwing each other. We have been working on few songs but then we didn’t really get time to arrange everything,” said one of the artistes who performed in the event.A music band comprising differently-abled children from Bethany Society performed the event and won many hearts. The festival also hosted an exhibition where handicraft items and horticulture products were put on display.

സ്പെയിനിലെ വിളവെടുപ്പ് ആഘോഷമായ ടൊമാറ്റോ ഫെസ്റ്റിവല് സിനിമകളിലൂടെയും മറ്റുമായി നമുക്കിടയിലും സുപരിചിതമാണ്. പരസ്പരം തക്കാളി എറിയുകയും ചവിട്ടിമെതിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ആഘോഷംഇന്ത്യയിലേക്കും എത്തിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്. മേഘാലയയുടെ തലസ്ഥാനമായ ഷില്ലോങ്ങിലാണ് ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ആദ്യ തക്കാളിമേള അരങ്ങേറിയത്.

നേരത്തെ സ്വകാര്യവ്യക്തികളും സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളും ‘ലാ ടൊമാറ്റിന’നടത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ആഹാരസാധനം പാഴാക്കിക്കളയുന്നതിനെതിരെ വ്യാപകമായ വിമര്ശ്മാണ് ഭരണകൂടത്തില് നിന്നും പൊതുജനങ്ങളില് നിന്നും ഉയര്ന്ന്ത്. ഇതാദ്യമായാണ് സര്ക്കാ്ര് പിന്തുണയോടെ പരിപാടി അരങ്ങേറുന്നത്. ഖാസി ജയന്ദിയ ഹില്സികല് അരങ്ങേറിയ പരിപാടി മേഘാലയ ഹോര്ട്ടി കല്ചസര് വകുപ്പും പച്ചക്കറി വ്യാപാരികളുടെ അസോസിയേഷനും ചേര്ന്നാകണ് സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചത്. വില്പ്പാനയോഗ്യമല്ലാത്ത തക്കാളികളാണ് ആഘോഷത്തിനായി ഉപയോഗിച്ചത്. വിദ്യാര്ഥിികളും ജോലിക്കാരും ഉള്പ്പെിടെ നൂറുകണക്കിന് ആളുകള് ടൊമാറ്റോ ഫെസ്റ്റിവലില് പങ്കാളികളായി.

വിളവെടുപ്പ് കാലത്ത് സ്‌പെയിനില് നടത്തിവരുന്ന ഒരു ഭക്ഷ്യ ഉത്സവമാണ് ലാ ടൊമാറ്റിന. തക്കാളി ധാരാളമായി കൃഷി ചെയ്യുന്ന സ്‌പെയിനില്, എല്ലാ വര്ഷാവും ഓഗസ്റ്റ് മാസത്തിലെ അവസാനത്തെ ബുധനാഴ്ചയാണ് ഈ ഉത്സവം നടത്തി വരുന്നത്. വിവിധ രാജ്യങ്ങളില് നിന്നുള്ള ലക്ഷക്കണക്കിനാളുകള് ഈ ഉത്സവത്തില് പങ്കെടുക്കുകയും, 1952ലാണ് ഈ ഉത്സവം ആരംഭിച്ചത്. ഒരാഴ്ച നീണ്ടുനില്ക്കു്ന്ന ഈ ഉത്സവത്തില് സംഗീതവും പരേഡുകളും മറ്റ് കലാപരിപാടികളും അരങ്ങേറും. ഏറ്റവും അവസാനത്തെ ദിവസമാണ് തക്കാളി ഏറ് നടത്തുന്നത്. തക്കാളി ഏറില് പങ്കെടുക്കാന് അരലക്ഷത്തോളം വിദേശികള് സ്‌പെയിനില് എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നുവെന്നാണ് കണക്ക്.
