DALIT COUPLE HACKED TO DEATH OVER 3 PACKS OF BISCUITS

An
Indian Dalit couple were hacked to death in an axe attack by a shopkeeper following
an argument over an unpaid 22 cent bill for three packets of biscuits.. The savaged attack took place in Manipuri, in the Uttar Pradesh state
of India. The man was repeatedly hit with the axe – while his wife was
decapitated moments later.Police said the impoverished couple - who were
members of the Dalit community (formerly known as untouchables) - had
approached the shopkeeper to tell him they needed to delay paying him for the
biscuits until they received their daily wages later the same day when the
argument broke out. They had taken the biscuits a few days earlier for their
three children.
The
man and the woman walked away from the grocer - named as Mishra - when he
started shouting at them, a villager was quoted as telling The Indian Express
newspaper.“Mishra then ran to his house nearby and returned with an axe. He
hacked Bharat repeatedly and then attacked Mamta who was trying to rescue her
husband. The couple died on the spot,” the villager was quoted as saying.The
shopkeeper was arrested for the murder of the couple. But the Dalit community –
who form the lowest rung of India’s caste hierarchy blocked streets in protest
over Thursday’s attack.
ബിസ്കറ്റ് വാങ്ങിയ പണം കൊടുക്കാന് വൈകിയതില് ക്ഷുഭിതനായ കടയുടമ ദളിത് ദമ്പതികളെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നു. ഉത്തര്പ്രദേശിലെ മെയ്ന്പുരിയില് ഭരത് നാട്ട് (48), ഭാര്യ മംമ്ത (45) എന്നിവരാണ് കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടത്. സംഭവത്തില് കടയുടമ അശോക് മിശ്രയെ പൊലീസ് അറസ്റ്റ്ചെയ്തു.
രണ്ടുദിവസംമുമ്പ് ഇവര് വാങ്ങിയ ബിസ്കറ്റിന്റെ പേരിലായിരുന്നു അക്രമമെന്ന് മെയ്ന്പുരി ജില്ലാ മജിസ്ട്രേട്ട് പ്രമോദ് ചന്ദ്രഗുപ്ത പറഞ്ഞു. വ്യാഴാഴ്ച രാവിലെ ഇവര് ജോലിക്ക് പോകുമ്പോഴായിരുന്നു സംഭവം. കടയില് നിന്നും വാങ്ങിയ ബിസ്ക്കറ്റിന്റെ വിലയായ 15 രൂപ കൊടുക്കാന് ഒരു ദിവസം വൈകിയതിനാണ് കടയുടമ ഇൂ കടുംകൈ ചെയത്ത്.
അടുത്തദിവസം ഇരുവരും ജോലിക്ക് പോകുമ്പോള് കടക്കാരന് അശോക് മിശ്ര പണം വീണ്ടും ചോദിച്ചു. ഇപ്പോള് കൈയ്യിലില്ലെന്നും ഉടന് നല്കാമെന്നും പറഞ്ഞതോടെ കടക്കാരന് ദേഷ്യപ്പെട്ട് കൈയിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന മഴു കൊണ്ട് ് ഇരുവരെയും വെട്ടുകയായിരുന്നു. തുടര്ന്ന് ഇയാള് ഒളിവില് പോയി. നാട്ടുകാരാണ് അശോക് മിശ്രയെ കണ്ടെത്തി പോലീസില് ഏല്പ്പിച്ചത്.ഗുജറാത്തില് അടുത്തിടെ നടന്ന ദളിത് പീഡനത്തിന്റെ പേരില് കനത്ത പ്രതിഷേധം നടക്കുന്നതിനിടയില് ഉത്തര് പ്രദേശിലും ഇത്തരം കൊലപാതകങ്ങളുണ്ടായത് .
