Over 200 works will be screened at this year’s International Documentary-Short Film Festival to be held here from June 10 to 14.Organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, the ninth edition of the festival will be held at the Kairali, Nila, and Sree theatres. Seventy-nine films will be screened in the documentary, short film, animation, music video and campus film categories. “This year’s festival theme is ‘wildlife’,” Cultural Affairs Minister A K Balan said.In the competition section, 79 films will be featured in the short fiction category, eight in the long documentary category, 19 in the documentary category, 14 in the music video division, six and four in the animation and campus film categories. In the non-competitive Focus section, 18 works will be shown in the short fiction category, five in the long documentary section and 18 in the documentary category.
Films of Manipuri filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma will be shown in the ‘retrospective’ division. Works of Chinese director Wang Bing and Sanjay Kak will be featured in the ‘Filmmaker in Focus’ category. Wildlife documentaries by Naresh Bedi, Sekhar Dattatri, Praveen Singh, Sandesh Kadur and Suresh Elamon are to be chief draws in this year’s edition.  Other attractions include short films from Latin American countries, ‘Beej’ curated by Marathi director Umesh Kulkarni and selected works from the Oberhausen film festival of Germany, where some of the best experimental works are screened. As many as 120 directors from across the country are expected to attend the festival.
