Mebourne based Malayali Dr. Sajeev Koshy has been awarded the Medal of Order of Australia for his service to the field of Dentistry in Australia.His work in public health care sphere in Victoria, especially in regional victoria was chosen for the Australia Day honours. When Dr. Koshy arrived in Australia, the public health care system in Victoria faced long waiting lists. "When I migrated and started work, the waiting list in public health care was around 57 months. However, in two years, my team led by me, brought it down to 7 months," he proudly shares.
Dr. Sajeev Koshy's work was recognised and he became the first recipient of Victoria's Public Healthcare Award in 2007. He also went on to win Victoria's Multicultural Award for Excellence in 2012. And today came the highest award. "I am elated and very humbled. The credit goes to my team and I am happy that my work has been recognised," Dr. Koshy told SBS Hindi. Dr. Sajeev Koshy hails from Trivandrum in Kerala. He is currently Acting Head of Endodontics at the Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital, Clinical Director for Plenty Valley Community Health and Director of Dental Services, Boort District Health in Victoria. Dr. Sajeev Koshy, who lives in Melbourne, was awarded the medal for his service to dentistry in the State.

Two other Indian-origin persons have been also awarded Australia’s highest civilian honour for their contribution in the fields of physics and engineering .Chennupati Jagadish, an eminent professor at Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra, Jay Chandra, an eye doctor in New South Wales, als  received the Order of Australia medal for the year 2016 announced on the Australia Day.Mr. Jagadish was conferred with the award for his eminent service to physics and engineering, particularly in the field of nanotechnology, to education as a leading academic, researcher, author and mentor, and through executive roles with national and international scientific advisory institutions.He was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) for eminent service to physics and engineering, particularly in the field of nanotechnology, to education as a leading academic, researcher, author and mentor, and through executive roles with national and international scientific advisory institutions.“This is a wonderful recognition for 25 plus years of work with my research group at the ANU,” said Mr. Jagadish, who works on semiconductor optoelectronics and nanotechnology.
Mr. Chandra, an eye doctor who has been the head of vitreo-retinal surgery at the Westmead Hospital since the unit opened in 1985, also received the award for his significant service to medicine in the field of ophthalmology as a clinician, and to the international community through eye care programs.“The field I specialise in is one of the most difficult in eye surgery. God has given me these skills and a good life in Australia,” he said. This year’s Australia Day honours list included over 600 people whose remarkable achievements range from high-profile humanitarian missions to humble work at the grassroots level of society’s most needy.

ഓഫ്ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയ പുരസ്‌കാരങ്ങള്‍ (OAM) പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.ദന്ത ചികിത്സാ രംഗത്തെ മികച്ച സംഭാവനകള്‍ കണക്കിലെടുത്ത് OAM പുരസ്കാരത്തിന് ഡോക്ടര്‍ സജീവ് കോശിയെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു.മെല്‍ബണിള്‍താമസിക്കുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം, മുതിര്‍ന്ന സ്‌പെഷ്യലിസ്റ്റ് എന്‍ഡോഡോന്റിസ്റ്റാണ്. ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയന്‍ ആരോഗ്യമേഖലയെ നിയന്ത്രിക്കുന്നAustralian Health Practitional Regulation Authority (AHPRA) യുടെ ദേശിയ പ്ലാന്‍ അംഗമായും ഡെന്റല്‍ ബോര്‍ഡ് ഓഫ് ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയ അംഗമായും നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ട ഡോക്ടര്‍ സജീവ് കോശി, വിക്ടോറിയന്‍ ആരോഗ്യമേഖലയില്‍ വിവിധ മുതിര്‍ന്ന പദവികള്‍ വഹിച്ചിരുന്നു.തിരുവനന്തപുരം കൈതമുക്കില്‍ കുടുംബാംഗമാണ് ഡോക്ടര്‍ കോശി. 2004 ലാണ് അദ്ദേഹം ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയിലേക്ക് കുടിയേറിയത്. അതിന് മുന്പ് 13 വര്‍ഷക്കാലം കേരളാ ഡെന്റല്‍ കൗണ്‍സില്‍ പ്രസിഡന്റും ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ഡെന്റല്‍ അസോസിയേഷന്‍ സംസ്ഥാന പ്രസിഡന്റുമായിരുന്നു.
