PAKISTAN AND AFGHANISTAN ROCKED BY EARTHQUAKE

പാക്കിസ്ഥാനിലും അഫ്ഗാനിലും വൻഭൂചലനം; മരണസംഖ്യ 90 കവിഞ്ഞു; ഉത്തരേന്ത്യയും വിറച്ചു

A massive earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale was felt in Srinagar and other parts of North India at around 2.45 pm on26th October,2015, Monday.The quake had its epicentre in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan, said a statement from the government.The quake was 196 km (120 miles) deep and centred 82 km southeast of Feyzabad in a remote area of Afghanistan in the Hindukush mountain range, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.7.20 pm: Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah says in a tweet that the earthquake was “the strongest one felt in recent decades. There are reports of heavy casualties caused by the earthquake but exact numbers are yet to be released by government authorities.” He did not provide further details.

Earlier he called an emergency meeting of disaster officials, which was broadcast live on television. He instructed doctors and hospitals to be prepared to receive and treat casualties7.10 pm: Reports are coming in saying at least a 1000 others have been injured in the aftermath of the earthquake, in addition to the 105 reported dead.The death toll in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) is 96, with 5 killed in Punjab, and 4 in PoK, the Dawn reported. Pakistani TV says 94 people have died in Pakistan as a result of the earthquake, bringing the region-wide toll from the disaster to 129, AP reports. Afghan officials have said 33 people have died in Afghanistan – where the earthquake was centred – including 12 schoolgirls who were trampled to death while trying to get out of swaying buildings. Another two people died in India-controlled parts of the disputed Kashmir region. Reuters is now saying at least 100 people have been killed in the earthquake. These include 24 in Afghanistan and 76 in Pakistan.The death toll could climb in coming days because communications were down in much of the rugged Hindu Kush mountain range area where the quake was centred. പാക്കിസ്ഥാൻ, അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാൻ എന്നീ അയൽ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലും ജമ്മു കശ്മീർ, ഡൽഹി തുടങ്ങിയ ഉത്തരേന്ത്യൻ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലും ശക്തമായ ഭൂചലനം. കഠ്മണ്ഡു ഉൾപ്പടെ നേപ്പാളിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലും ഭൂചലനമുണ്ടായി. ഇന്ത്യയിലുണ്ടായ ഭൂചലനം റിക്ടർ സ്കെയിലിൽ ഏഴിനു മുകളിലാണ് തീവ്രത രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഇന്നു ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് 2.45 ഓടെയാണ് ഭൂചലനമുണ്ടായത്. മധ്യ അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാന്റെയും വടക്കൻ പാക്കിസ്ഥാന്റെയും ഇടയിലുള്ള ഹിന്ദുകുഷ് മലനിരകളാണ് ഭൂചലനത്തിന്റെ പ്രഭവകേന്ദ്രം.

പാക്കിസ്ഥാന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലും ഭൂചലനമുണ്ടായി. പാക്കിസ്ഥാനിൽ 7.5 രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയ ഭൂചലനത്തിൽ വൻ നാശനഷ്ടമാണ് ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കുന്നത്. 71 പേർ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടതായി പാക്ക് മാധ്യമം ഡോൺ റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്യുന്നു. നിരവധിപ്പേർക്ക് പരുക്കേറ്റിട്ടുണ്ട്. പാക്കിസ്ഥാനിൽ അനേകം കെട്ടിടങ്ങൾ തകരുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. ആദ്യ ഭൂകമ്പത്തിനു പിന്നാലെ 40 മിനിട്ടിനുശേഷം 4.8 രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയ തുടർചലനവും ഉണ്ടായതായാണ് റിപ്പോർട്ടുകൾ. അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാനിലെ കാബൂളിൽ ഭൂചലനമുണ്ടായപ്പോൾ സ്കൂളിൽ നിന്നും രക്ഷപെടാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നതിനിടെ തിക്കിലും തിരക്കിലും പെട്ട് 12 വിദ്യാർഥിനികൾ മരിച്ചു. ഭൂചലനത്തിൽ ഏഴുപേരും കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.കാബൂളിലുള്ള ഇന്ത്യക്കാരെല്ലാം സുരക്ഷിതരാണെന്നും അവരുടെ താമസസ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങൾ റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ലെന്നും ഇന്ത്യൻ എംബസി ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥൻ പറഞ്ഞു.

പഞ്ചാബ്, ഹിമാചൽ പ്രദേശ്, ഹരിയാന, ഗുജറാത്ത് എന്നീ മേഖലകളിൽ അഞ്ചു സെക്കൻഡ് ഭൂചലനം നീണ്ടുനിന്നു. ഈ മേഖലകളിൽ 7.7 തീവ്രതയിലാണ് ഭൂചലനം ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കുന്നത്. ജയ്പൂർ, ഷിംല, ശ്രീനഗർ, ചണ്ഡീഗഡ്, ഭോപ്പാൽ എന്നിവടങ്ങളിലും പ്രകമ്പനം അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടു. ജമ്മു കശ്മീർ നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടുണ്ട്. അതേസമയം, ഭൂചലനത്തിനിടെ ഹൃദയാഘാതം മൂലം ഒരാൾ മരിച്ചു. കൊച്ചിയിൽ കലൂരിലും പ്രകമ്പനം അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടു. ആളുകൾ കെട്ടിടങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്തേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങിയോടി.

അതേസമയം, പാക്കിസ്ഥാനും അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാനും ആവശ്യമായ എല്ലാ സഹായങ്ങളും നൽകുമെന്ന് പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി നരേന്ദ്ര മോദി അറിയിച്ചു. പാക്ക് – അഫ്ഗാൻ മേഖലയിലുണ്ടായ ഭൂകമ്പത്തിന്റെ പ്രകമ്പനമാണ് ഇന്ത്യയിലുണ്ടായത്. എല്ലാവരുടെയും സുരക്ഷയ്ക്കായി പ്രാർഥിക്കുന്നു. അടിയന്തരമായി റിപ്പോർട്ട് നൽകണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും മോദി ട്വിറ്ററിൽ കുറിച്ചു.രാജ്യത്ത് ആശങ്കപ്പെടാനുള്ള സാഹചര്യമില്ലെന്ന് കേന്ദ്ര ഭൗമപഠന കേന്ദ്രം അറിയിച്ചു. ഡൽഹിയിലും മറ്റും കെട്ടിടങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും ജനങ്ങളെ സുരക്ഷിത സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് മാറ്റിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ജമ്മു കശ്മീരിൽ ഭൂചലനത്തെ തുടർന്ന് വൈദ്യുതബന്ധവും ടെലിഫോൺ ബന്ധവും തടസ്സപ്പെട്ടു. കെട്ടിടങ്ങൾ ഭാഗികമായി തകരുകയും ഗതാഗതം തടസ്സപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.
