NARENDRA MODI BOOTS UP “DIGITAL
INDIA” WITH HIGH PROFILE SILICON VALLY

Sept 28 -The heads of top tech firms in Silicon Valley took note of
Modi-U.S. 2.0, the Silicon Valley saga, and supplied a bounty of investment and
development plans. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not only at his oratorical
best during a “Digital India” dinner but also appeared to strike a chord with
the community here, building on the same diaspora ties as he did one year ago
at Madison Square Garden in New York City.In response to his “Digital India”
road show here, the commitments made include a $150-million investment by
Qualcomm into a fund for Indian start-ups, an ambitious project to let Google
users be able to type in 10 Indian languages, Microsoft’s promise to open up
cloud computing services out of Indian data centres and critical proposals from
Tesla and Apple for long-term solutions in solar energy and the app economy.
Leading
the list of strategic policy announcements, Qualcomm boss Paul Jacobs
emphasised his company’s support for the “Digital India” and “Make in India”
agenda by establishing a $150-million India-specific Venture Fund formed
exclusively to fuel innovation and foster promising Indian start-ups that were
contributing to the mobile and the “Internet of everything” ecosystem.Google’s
Chennai-born CEO Sundar Pichai was not to be outdone as he promised that next
month the Internet search giant would announce a new approach to Indian
language typing.Mr. Pichai said, “Android is today available in many Indic
languages but we know that to push digital literacy forward it is really
important for people to be able to type in Indian languages. So next month, we
will make it possible for people to type in 10 Indic languages in India,
including the Prime Minister’s mother tongue, Gujarati.”Mr. Modi had earlier
quipped: “The most fundamental debate for our youth now is the choice between
Android, iOS or Windows.”

IT hub Silicon Valley gave a warm support to Indian government’s dream project
Digital India. The big giants of IT were all set to visit India by accepting
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation.Many top CEOs of famous IT companies
sharpened their ear to Modi who is now fondly called the ‘Digital Man of
India’. Tim Cook (Apple), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Satya Nadella
(Microsoft), Sundar Pichai (Google), Shantanu Narayan (Adobe), Paul Jacobs
(Qualcomm), John Chambers (Cisco), Venkitesh Shukl (Indus Entrepreneurs) were
some of the giants who was attracted by the Modi aura and his project proposal.
Promises flowed in from various quarters soon after Modi’s speech.Microsoft
promised to join hands with the Indian government to bring in low cost
broadband to five lakh villages in India. Google came up with free wifi for 500
railway stations. Qualcomm promised investments in Indian start-ups and Apple
to start making-units in India.Narendra Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister
to visit Silicon Valley and he received a grand welcome from top IT CEOs. He
during his meeting with various company CEOs said that the Information
Technology made a great leap and had changed the life style of people all over
the world.

പൂമാല ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് അക്ഷരമായ എം എന്ന് എഴുതിയ ശേഷമാണ് മോഡിയെ ഗൂഗിള് സ്വാഗതം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. സ്വാഗത സന്ദേശത്തില് ക്ലിക്ക് ചെയ്താല് ഗൂഗിളിന്റെ ഏഷ്യ പസിഫിക് ബ്ലോഗിലേക്കാണ് പോവുക. ഗൂഗിള് സി.ഇ.ഒ സുന്ദര് പിച്ചായിയുടെ ഒരു കുറിപ്പാണ് ബ്ലോഗിലുള്ളത്.
സൗജന്യ വൈ ഫൈ സൗകര്യം വിമാനത്താവളങ്ങളില് മാത്രം പോരാ. ഗൂഗിളുമായി ചേര്ന്ന് ഒട്ടും വൈകാതെ 500 റെയില്വേ സ്റ്റേഷനുകളില് ഈ സൗകര്യമൊരുക്കുമെന്ന് സിലിക്കണ്വാലി കമ്പനി മേധാവികളുടെ യോഗത്തില് പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.
കൂടാതെ അടുത്ത മാസം ഗുജറാത്തി അടക്കം പത്ത് ഇന്ത്യന് ഭാഷകളില് ടൈപ്പിങ് സൗകര്യമൊരുക്കുമെന്ന് ഇന്ത്യന് വംശജനായ ഗൂഗിള് സി.ഇ.ഒ. സുന്ദര് പിച്ചായ് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. ഡിജിറ്റല് സാക്ഷരതയില് മാതൃഭാഷയുടെ പ്രാധാന്യം മനസിലാക്കിയാണ് ഇത്.ഗൂഗിള് ആസ്ഥാനം സന്ദര്ശിച്ച മോഡിയെ സുന്ദര് പിച്ചായി ഊഷ്മളമായ സ്വീകരണമാണ് നല്കിയത്. പിന്നാലെ ഇന്ത്യയുമായി സഹകരിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ഇന്റര്നെറ്റ് സെര്ച്ച് എന്ജിന് ഭീമന്റെ പ്രഖ്യാപനം വന്നു. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ 500 റെയില്വേ സ്റ്റേഷനുകളില് വൈഫൈ സൗകര്യം ലഭ്യമാക്കാന് ഗൂഗിള് സഹകരിക്കുന്നതാണ്. ആദ്യ ഘട്ടത്തില് 100 റെയില്വേ സ്റ്റഷനിലും അടുത്ത വര്ഷം 400 സ്റ്റേഷനിലും സൗകര്യം ക്രമീകരിക്കാനാണ് പദ്ധതിയെന്നും ഹൈസ്പീഡ് ഇന്റനെറ്റ് സൗകര്യമായിരിക്കും ലഭ്യമാക്കുകയെന്നും സുന്ദര് പിച്ചൈ വ്യക്തമാക്കി.
പ്രതിദിനം ഇന്ത്യയില് 25 മില്യണ് ആളുകള് ട്രെയിന് യാത്ര നടത്തന്നുണ്ടെന്നും റെയില്വേയ്ക്ക് 7500 സ്റ്റേഷനുകളുണ്ടെന്നും പിച്ചൈ പറഞ്ഞു. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ റെയില് പാതകളുടെ നീളം ഭൂമിയില് നിന്ന് ചന്ദ്രനിലേക്കുള്ള ദൂരത്തിന്റെ ഇരട്ടി വരുമെന്നും, മോഡിയുടെ ഡിജിറ്റല് ഇന്ത്യ പദ്ധതി പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനു ലക്ഷ്യമിട്ടാണ് വൈഫൈയുടെ കാര്യത്തില് സഹകരിക്കുന്നതെന്നും പിച്ചൈ പറഞ്ഞു.
