A LIFE THAT GAVE LIFE TO FOUR
P.T. (27) left this world while doing his job. But he will continue to live
through four other people. This was the first case of cadaver organ
transplantation in Government Medical College in Kozhikode. Aneesh was declared
brain dead following an accident at the hotel where he, an electrician, was
trying to train the staff on the usage of a fire extinguisher.Instead of the
usual apprehensions on the part of the relatives in such cases, Aneesh’s
parents Balakrishnan and Shobha, as well as his brother Arun Kumar agreed to
donate his organs. Both his kidneys were donated to patients undergoing
treatment at the Malabar Institute of Medical Science in the city while the
eyes were donated to the eye bank of the medical college.
One of
the kidneys was donated to a 26-year-old male from Nallalam, Kozhikode, who was
under dialysis at MIMS Dialysis Centre, Nallalam. The second kidney was
transplanted to a 21-year-old female from Vadakara, who was under dialysis for
four years at MIMS Dialysis Centre, Vadakara. The accident happened last
Saturday. He was immediately taken to the medical college. But the brain death
was confirmed on Wednesday.
