പ്രമുഖ സാമൂഹ്യപ്രവര്ത്തകനും മിത്രനികേതന് സ്കൂളിന്റെ സ്ഥാപകനുമായ മിത്രാനികേതന് വിശ്വനാഥന് (85) അന്തരിച്ചു. . കേരള ഗ്രാമങ്ങളുടെ പുനരുദ്ധാരണ പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങളുടെ അമരക്കാരനായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. 2007- ല് പത്മശ്രീ നല്കി രാജ്യം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ആദരിച്ചിരുന്നു. 1956 - ലാണ് അദ്ദേഹം മിത്രനികേതന് സ്ഥാപിച്ചത്. ഗ്രാമീണരുടെ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ നിലവാരം ഉയര്ത്തുക, ദാരിദ്യം ഇല്ലായ്മ ചെയ്യുക എന്നിവയായിരുന്നു ലക്ഷ്യം.
Mitraniketan is well-known in India and abroad as a Keraka- based Voluntary Non- Governmental Organisation that has pioneered people- centered holistic rural development for improving the quality of life and living of village communities. It stives to promote rural development with human face. Mitraniketan's founder K. Viswathan was inspired by the precepts and pratices of Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Arther E Morgan of USA and NFS Grundtviq of Denmark- which motivated him to start an experiment in rural development of his birth- place Vellanad. 25 kms by road from Thiruvananthapuram, the Capital of Kerala State. The innovative organisation he started in 1956 was named Mitranikethan. It has since progressevely grown into the extensive development organisation that it is today. To evolve an alternative development paradign with a focus on sustainable rural development is the vision of this institution
