SG COLLEGE ALUMNI - TVM CHAPTER VISITED MALAMEL TEMPLE

MALAMEL-A BEAUTIFUL HILL STATION IN

 MID-SOUTH KERALA

Malamel is a beautiful hill station near Valakom and Anchal. The famous Chadayamangalam Hill station also very close by. There is an ancient Shiva-Vishnu Temple on the top. From the top of the hill one see the Arabian sea. Viewing sunset from the "Naadukkani Paara" is an amazing experience. The Tiger cave the locals call as “Pulichaanu” is an un explored cave.  Another wonder is the Umbrella Rock, named as “Kudappara” in the local lexicon can provide refuge to at least 30 people during rain. There are many water sources on the top of the hill which quench the thirst of more than 300 odd monkey population. It is a good place for spirituality, yoga,   trekking, wrappling, rock climbing, monkey watching/feeding etc.  The state high way, M. C. Road is just one km away at Valakom.
Malamel is a village in Pathanapuram Taluk in Kollam district, Kerala, India. This village is situated between Anchal and Valakom by-pass road. Malamel means "Top of the hill".At Malamel, there is a huge rock on which there is a famous Shiva Temple. Temple festival is held on December 3. The temple has 5 doors and is considered to be divine and ancient because of the close proximity of Jadayupara (Chadayamangalam) (the rock that Jadayu carried on his wings). It has also a cave at extreme left of the temple, into which a British Adventurer in the year 1946, tried in vain to venture, and which leads to the Kulathupuzha Forest. This cave is believed to be a haven for very venomous snakes. An Evening at Malamel Temple Kottarakara St. Gregorios College Alumni Thiruvananthapuram Chapter visited Malamel Temple and rock on 17th March,2014. The study team includes Mr. Sam Kurakar, Mr Alex and Mr. Benny
