AFGHAN VICE PRESIDENT MOHAMMED QASIM FAHIM DIED

അഫ്ഗാന്‍ വൈസ് പ്രസിഡന്റ് ക്വാസിം ഫഹിം അന്തരിച്ചു

One of Afghanistan's most influential power brokers, First Vice President Mohammed Qasim Fahim, died of illness on Sunday, altering the country's political landscape ahead of presidential elections next month.A leader of the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance, Marshal Fahim played a major role in President Hamid Karzai's administration, especially in overseeing the country's security establishment."His death today is a big loss for the people of Afghanistan," said former Afghan intelligence chief Amrullah Saleh, also a former Northern Alliance commander. "We should work together and make sure that his absence does not destabilize the country."

               അഫ്ഗാനിസ്താന്‍ വൈസ് പ്രസിഡന്റ് മാര്‍ഷല്‍ മുഹമ്മദ് ക്വാസിം ഫഹിം (57) അന്തരിച്ചു. ഹൃദയാഘാതത്തെ തുടര്‍ന്നായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യം. വൈസ് പ്രസിഡന്റ് ആകുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ് പ്രതിരോധ മന്ത്രിയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. ന്യൂനപക്ഷ സമുദായമായ താജിക്കിന്റെ പ്രമുഖ നേതാവാണ്. താലിബാനെ പുറത്താക്കാന്‍ 2001 ല്‍ രൂപംകൊണ്ട സഖ്യകക്ഷിയിലെ നേതാക്കളില്‍ പ്രമുഖനായിരുന്നു. 

             2009 ല്‍ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് പ്രചാരണത്തിന് ഇടയില്‍ അദ്ദേഹം ഭീകരാക്രമണത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് കഷ്ടിച്ചാണ് രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടത്. താലിബാന്‍ നടത്തിയ റോക്കറ്റാക്രമണത്തില്‍ അദ്ദേഹം സഞ്ചരിച്ചിരുന്ന വാഹനം പൂര്‍ണമായും തകര്‍ന്നിരുന്നു. നിസാരപരിക്കുകളോടെയാണ് അന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടത്. 2014 ഏപ്രില്‍ അഞ്ചിന് വീണ്ടും പ്രസിഡന്റ് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് നടക്കാനിരിക്കെയാണ് ഫഹിമിന്റെ അന്ത്യമുണ്ടായത്. രാജ്യത്ത് മൂന്നു ദിവസത്തെ ഔദ്യോഗിക ദുഃഖാചരണത്തിന് സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ ആഹ്വാനം ചെയ്തു.
