ARANMULA VILLAGE TO CELEBRATE SUGATHAKUMARI’S BIRTHDAY
The 80th birthday of Sugathakumari, poet and socio-environmental activist, will be
celebrated in her home village of Aranmula on Wednesday.In a statement here on
Monday, organising committee convener P.P. Chandrashekharan Nair said the
celebrations would be held in front of the sacred grove in the courtyard of the
poet’s ancestral home, Vazhuvelil Tharavadu, near the Sree Parthasarathy
temple. Philipose Mar Chrysostum, senior Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church, and
Swami Golokananda, president of the Thiruvalla Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, will
felicitate Ms. Sugathakumari at a function at 11 a.m.

Mallasserry, Principal, Kozhencherry St. Thomas College; Jose Parakkadavil,
District Kathakali Club president; P. Sreekumar, literary critic; O.S.
Unnikrishnan, and Aranmula Vijayakumar, poets, will speak. Thomas P. Thomas of
St. Thomas College will present a paper on the interventions of Ms.
Sugathakumari in social and environmental issues.
