KOLLAM FLOWER SHOW-2013-14
The 23rd annual Kollam Flower Show will be held at the
Government Guest House complex grounds from December 27 to January 6.A flower
rally to herald the show will b held from Anandawalleshwaram to the venue. The
inaugural would be followed by a dance recital.The annual 12-day Kollam
Flower Show began at the Government Guest House complex at Asramam in the city
on Friday.A colourful flower rally comprising several vehicles decked with
flowers, floats and traditional cultural events was held through the main roads
of the city to herald the event.Inaugurating the show, Union Minister of State
for Labour and Employment Kodikunnil Suresh called upon public sector
undertakings, banks and private concerns to come forward and promote such
events..
The show
provides an opportunity for the people to enjoy a floral treat and that is a
great way to usher in the New Year.All flower shows are lavishly patronised by
the people and it shows their keen interest in horticulture and farming, he
added.The inaugural function was presided over by P.K. Gurudasan, MLA. District
Collector B. Mohanan welcomed the gathering. N. Peethambara Kurup, MP, and
Mayor Prasanna Earnest spoke.Various species of flowering plants, ferns,
climbers and a fabulous bonsai collection are on show.A miniature forest set up
by the Forest Department is an added attraction at the show.There is also a
huge collection of ornamental fish, exotic birds and rich collection of farm
products.A dance programme by the noted dancer Methil Devika added more colour
to the inaugural function.
