SHE TAXI SERVICE

SHETAXI SERVICE

An all-women taxi service has been launched by the Kerala government to ensure safe travel for women at all hours. These 24/7 'She Taxi' services are driven and owned by women.
The white and pink taxis driven by women will be seen moving around Thiruvananthapuram soon. Owned and run by women the taxis will provide safe travel options at a time when violence against women is on the rise.
"It is a taxi service run by women for women, you cannot think of anything more which is safer than this. I hope that more people come forward to take up this service," said the goodwill ambassador of the project, actor Manju Warrier.

Single women travelling late at night no longer have to worry as these taxis are available at all hours and if any problem crops up the driver can press a panic button and seek police help. The taxis are monitored through a GPS system and their movement can be tracked by the passenger's guardians or friends. So far five women have come forward to run the service initiated by Gender Park under the Department of Social Justice.
"I thought of being a part of this project as I feel that women can safely reach their destinations. I feel that more ladies should come forward and be part of this initative so the city will be safer for women," said Asha, a driver. The women drivers have also been trained in self defence and Thiruvananthapuram's women have welcomed the initiative. "Now I feel confident that I can travel all alone without the support of my boyfriend or family. I am thrilled about this," said Aishwarya, a commuter.Taking a ride in the security enabled 'She Taxi' along with a confident woman driver gives one the trust to board one of these even late at night. The introduction of such a service has given relief to many but the department of Social Justice should keep its word of increasing the number of taxis to 100 and extending it to other cities. An all-women taxi service has been launched by the Kerala government to ensure safe travel for women at all hours.
